I should take a photo of my car.  I've left the roof-box on meaning the car hasn't been washed since... ooooh... september.

And my P5 is black.

From my drive to Lake Placid on the weekend. Note the snow build up in the wheel wells from driving through a snow storm on unplowed hwys for a couple of hours. The second picture doesn't look as bad as it really was.

I thought everyone claimed they didn't use salt out in Alberta....

That's pretty much what my car looks like all winter.  Especially today, after 15cm snow, and 10 mm freezing rain last night.

Just curious, but can't you wash it in wand wash place? That way, the roof box doesn't matter? It's not the best wash in the world, but at least it gets some of the crap off.

You could... but I've pretty much given up hope as well, having washed my car twice since October I believe.  The weather's been so bad 'round here this winter that you can't leave the wash-place parking lot without the car being filthy again.

I suppose if I had a BMW, my tune might be different.   ;)

Yeah, I probably could wand-wash it.

The roof-box is only part of the problem.  Ottawa can be really sunny, cold and dry for weeks on end.  I prefer to let sleeping dogs lie (i.e. dried salt) and not hose the car down pushing salt-water into all the nooks and crannies.

Well, I am a bit (??) anal that way. Even if I know it will get dirty going home from the wand wash, I still wash mine once every 7 to 10 days. I can't stand to see it filthy. Besides, a clean car is faster...less wind resistance.... ;D ;D

I don't dry it tho, and the temps here are usually warm enough that it doesn't freeze the doors shut, etc.

Real car nuts like Snowy, tho, they would lick the car dry..... ;) ;) ;D

That is what I was lead to believe too so imagine my shock when after driving from Jasper to Edson the Subie looked like that!  It was a bit dirty after the drive from Kamloops to Jasper up the North Thompson but east of the park, wow!

There is this myth that Alberta does not salt the roads.  We use lots.  Maybe less than Ontario or Quebec, but still lots.  Albertans that won't buy an Ontario used car "cause it was on salted roads" are morons that don't seem to notice that their own car is white all winter...
