GM pulling out all the stops (new car purchase incentives)
« on: February 14, 2009, 06:20:28 am »
I saw this as part of a GM advert in the TO Star yesterday. How long has this been offered?

Upon purchase of a new eligible 2008 or 2009 model year new General Motors vehicle, you get

No Charge Maintenance for 36 months/60, 000 km or 48 months/80,000 km, whichever comes first (depending on the model)

A two (2) year OnStar subscription with Directions and Connections
A two (2) year subscription for XM Satellite Radio

I don't see this on their site, are you sure it's not a dealer promo?

But with the pressing financial difficulties of XM, 2 years might be a moot offer  ::).

I dont see it yet on the website but in today's Star it is shown in 3 full page adverts for Chevrolet and Pontiac and Saturn....none associated with a specifc dealer.

I don't think that will entice most of the folks here to buy a GM.  But there are still lots of other car buyers out there with different priorities or financial situations.  Is that a sweeter deal than what their competition has to offer?

I saw the ad in the Globe&Mail - I think it is across the country as our edition of the Globe is printed in Vancouver.

That is not enuff for me to consider a GM vehicle.

If I'm not mistaken, they also still offer cash buying incentives? I went to look at a Cobalt SS and there was $ 4k off via factory cash. I never went far enough to see what the dealer would subtract in addition to that.

Oddly, if you go to Dodge's site, there are no longer any cash incentices!! Yet I see ads on TV in the US where there was $ 8k off, lifetime maintenance and warranty on some Chrysler product. I guess Chrysler Canada figures its "above" all that....

I was at the Pontiac dealer today and asked how much cash value is this just released 3 year 'free' maintenance offer. He said he would give us a $1000 off the price of the Acadia we were looking at.

A friend of mine bought a new Dodge sedan this week with the 3.5 engine in it. The discounts were quite good he said but the fuel tank was not full as expected as Chrsler does not pay for a full tank of gas anymore at all for any of its customers. To me the extras's from GM only make them a much better deal for the clients who buy them and they are getting a very decent car for the money as well. I wonder what happens when the X satelite  type radios don't work if they revert back to just normal radio like FM signals or not. The On-Star is a great invention which has saved a lot of lives over the years as well as repairs for diagnostics as well. Even the basic version of it is very good for helping people in distress.  :)

You pay full price, I'll offer you a 2 year deal on stuff offered by two companies on the verge of bankruptcy.

Sounds like a deal to me.

The offers vary depending on the model.

For example, Astra offers 5 years of maintenance included but not the 2 year OnStar Direction and Connections package. For someone who's payment focused, think no-charge maintenace is a great idea. For consumers it's added piece of mind, and for GM it means not shelling out money for extra incentives today when they're looking to conserve as much as possible.

That, coupled with the longer warranty, are definite factors in choosing a Vibe over a Matrix if I were buying.

I had no idea that every new Vibe is sold with 5 year/160,000 km no charge maintenance.  :o   Why would any one even consider a Matrix. ???  I can see tears flowing at Toyota stores.  :'(

One would buy the Matrix if one likes the look of the Matrix better than the Vibe.  Or if one is a Toyota fanboy.   :)

I'm not in the market for a new car right now. These incentives would tempt me towards an Astra or Malibu though (2 of the cars GM makes right now that I really like). The Vibe of course would be another one I would buy.

I'm looking forward to seeing how competitive the Cruze will be.
