Test Drive:
2009 Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD

2009 Ford Escape Hybrid 4WDMore power and improved driveability are the major changes to the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid, reports Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson.  Fuel economy is "excellent for a compact SUV... but there is a quite a price premium to be paid for the Hybrid."

Seems like some good improvements but I wonder if how long it will take to pay off the price premium with the better fuel economy?  I still don't really get the idea of a hybrid for a vehicle best suited to highway/back county roads rather than city use but that's just me.

"I discovered the price of this vehicle had jumped to $37,299" for the 4WD base and an as tested price of $41,899 vs AWD $29,599 base non-hybrid   Shocked Shocked Shocked  Is this really the way Ford wants/needs to go for pricing?

Curious: why do you think the Escape isn't suited for city use?  I find the Tribute to be very good in the city - easy to park and a little higher up with good visibility all around.
