I bought this car, bone stock in 1996.  I actually sold a 2 year-old Honda Civic so I could buy this car I considered myself so fortunate to find an example that wasn't suffering from rust, a huge stereo and little rubber band tires.  After about seven years of using it as a daily driver it's been sleeping every winter since and is now a fair weather car only.  It might not be a road rocket, but it's plenty fast and I've lightly modded it.  Shamefully, I don't have a picture of the car with the new rims and (rubber band) tires that I bought just before it went away for this year's hibernation, but the pics on my website will give you an idea of where the car has come from, and where it's going.

I don't know where I heard it the first time (might've be paraphrasing a VW ad from the late 80's) but my mantra has always been, "It's not how fast you go, but how well you go fast."  I used to do a lot of autocrossing in the 90's and even some rally driving and have driven a lot of nice cars...some of them race-prepared  I can honestly say this is the closest car that I've had to a slot car in the way it handles.

I'll post a couple of pics here and also point you to my website if you're so inclined.  Seems like a slow news night on CTCanada so I thought I'd share.

/Eric

Nice, I've always liked those old shape CRX's!

Thanks for posting the pix, Angry chicken. Those older CRXs were neat small cars and very popular. Funny, don't see many around any more, are the survivors all garage-queens now?

Sounds like you have had fun with this car. Good on ya.  Drive

It's not how fast you go...it's how well you go fast!

There is a lot of truth to that.  I too liked that model.

Congrats on 350,000 km

Hey, now I'm wondering if we've ever met, or at least been at the same event. Did you autocross the CRX?  MCO?

Did you ever auto cross in the old Pinecrest shopping centre parking lot or in the east end where the Zellers (now Value Village, I think) used to be?

Nice projectors.
They have angel eyes on them, too!  Drives the BMW guys crazy.  Makes the car go about .0005 km/h faster, too.  I'm going to give rrocket a run for his money....

No, none at Pinecrest.  I did quite a few at the Palladium/CorelCenter/Scotiabankplace in the mid-late 90's.  Plus a few at other venues, but nothing in the East end.  Did the Ontario Winter Rally a couple of times as well.
I'm planning to do a few MCO slaloms this season, do you still compete?

I loved those CRXs. Remember looking at a new one in 1989, dealer was asking $19,000 for a load Si model.

Thanks for sharing.

No.  I haven't competed in about 6 years now.  I stopped because the engine transplant in my CRX moved me into a street-modified class and I was no longer competitive.  Of course, maybe the full coilovers, camber kits and strut bar would've done the same thing too!  I *am* planning to take my car to Shannonville this year though.  http://www.shannonville.com/body.php?section=schedule&page=payperlap

Great little car! I've always loved the CRX Si, but never driven one.

I'm always proud to say that my Civic weighs in at a svelte 2,600lbs, but I'm sure it's a porker compared to yours. What does the CRX weigh - 2,100 lbs or so?  Must be a hoot to toss around.  Thumbs up

According to this site http://www.crxsi.com/specs.htm the US model car weighs 2137 lbs.  The Canadian model didn't get door cross members until 1990 IIRC, and weighed closer to 2000 lb for the 1989 model year.  The D16ZC engine that I have in mine (DOHC 16V + oil cooler vs. the stock SOHC 16V) weighs about 25 lb more so I'm guessing 2025 lb. Maybe a bit more because I have A/C.

There is a Royal blue (custom paint) CRXthat's so modded and riced out around here that I forgot what a normal CRX actually looked like. Thanks for reminding me  Wink

Very sweet car, and one that I'm sure you've been having fun with. Good luck with upcoming mods!

Very clean car, no rust, 350,000km sure makes a milestone!

But if I were you I will have OEM Honda steering wheel. Non-airbag Type-R one is also possible.

I still have the OEM steering wheel in addition to all the other original parts.  I'm keepin' 'em for when this rice rocket phase of my life passes.

I like the Mazda MX-3 rims in the pictures.  What did you replace those with?

I got Fast "Vice" wheels.  16 x 7, wrapped with 215/40R-16 Falken FK-452 tires for a smooth, no bump ride.
