http://www.motorauthority.com/spy-shots-2010-hyundai-tucson-suv.html Hyundai recently updated its Tucson compact SUV with a new four-cylinder engine but the next-generation model, seen here testing in prototype form, is less than a year away and is expected to be limited to a four-cylinder engine lineup. Due late this year as a 2010 model, the new Tucson will move to a more crossover-styled body and is tipped to share its platform with the next Kia Sportage. These latest spy shots show the upcoming SUV undergoing cold-weather testing in Europe. The rough outline of the prototype reveals that the next Tucson will have a much smoother design than the boxy style of the current model, but will remain largely the same size. One of the engines planned for the new Tucson will be a highly-efficient 2.0L turbocharged petrol unit with around 200hp (147kW) on tap. A petrol-electric hybrid version of this engine is also expected to be available but not at the 2010 model’s launch. Another option will be a more basic 2.4L Theta II four-cylinder engine with about 175hp (130kW). A new six-speed automatic transmission is expected to come as standard. Hyundai is also setting up a new engine plant in Alabama to start manufacturing the four-cylinder engines for use in U.S. produced vehicles. The carmaker currently imports all its four-cylinder engines from South Korea

Looks like a mini Santa Fe, which is not a bad thing. The interior is an improvement for sure. A 4cyl + a motor would make it a great versatile vehicle, but I dont see why they would want to have 2 different I4s instead of offering a more efficient V6 as a second option. With current gas price in mind many like the smoothness and torque of a V6 power plant. |

I think that they took the old 2.7L V6 as far as is reasonably possible in terms of power and efficiency when they added VVT and the 2.4L I4 now makes similar power to the 2.7L. The only other V6 that they could possibly use is the 3.3L from the Sonata and Santa Fe which is in the 230-240hp range and would probably be more expensive and use more fuel. With a fairly modest 100hp/L I'd bet that the 2.0L turbo is tuned to have a nice flat torque curve, perhaps similar to VW's 2.0L turbo which makes 200hp and over 200lb/ft of torque from under 2K rpm to redline. They're using the 2.4L to keep costs down on the base model. |

My neabour across the road has a approx 2004- to now Sonata and I will say its a very attractive car in the Brindlewood brown colour with the better dress wheels. I agree as they are a very nice design for sure. |

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these. The improvement of the interior is definitely my favorite feature. -jim |

Got to agree with Laspalmas. I hate to see the boxy small SUVs going away. I could carry a full-sized washer, dryer or dishwasher in the back of my old Sidekick and X-Trail. Try that with any of the new, semi-fastback crossovers. I was disappointed when Nissan decided not to give us the new X-Trail and instead gave us the Rogue (which looks an awful lot like the new Tucson, which looks an awful lot like the Santa Fe, which looks a lot like ...) |

I like the Rogue but miss the XTrail, Nissan sold 59 Xterra last month, I say can this beast and bring back the Xtrail and people will go for it. The Xtrail is now bigger than before, it probably would not hurt the Rogue sales. http://www.autonet.ca/autos/search/testdrives/2008/07/28/pf-6286886.htmlCompletely new interior, and yes a traditional instrument panel. |

A salesman at Tony Graham Nissan told me they expected X-Trail owners to move naturally into the Rogue when it came time to trade, but an awful lot of them didn't. I don't think the Rogue is as distinctive or as functional as the X-Trail was. |

I'm pretty sure Hyundai uses the "world engine" in many of its 4cyl applications, which is made in the US. |

Nope, not a mini Murano. It is totally "inspired" by the Ford Kuga though...

My first impression was also that the design was inspired by Ford Kuga. It's funny how every time a new Hyundai design comes out I wonder which car they would get the "inspiration" from. I guess it depends who is the segment leader for the car they are designing. When they cannot decide, they take bits and pieces from everyone (e.g. Genesis). However, it looks nice for a change, but let's see production version. |

So, Kia follows Honda Design and Hyundai follows Ford Design... At least they picked nice designs to follow, eheheheh. |

hmm, she actually looks good Not just good... that looks great. Hopefully the NA model looks exactly the same. I wonder what pricing will be (I assume similar to the current model) and what the drivetrain choices are. Looking forward to checking it out once it arrives. |

Wow, that does look good. Always thought the Santa Fe was a sharp design, this seems as good or better. |
