Let me try and alleviate some of this Venza winter tire hysteria (exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement).

The Venza will take a 17 inch wheel, either V6 or I4, 2WD or AWD.  16 incher will not clear the front wheel caliper.  Toyota dealers will be selling a black steelie for about $89.  For those that hate steelies any Avalon or Camry SE 17 inch alloy or aftermarket alloy will fit.  Bolt pattern has not changed.

I like it a lot.  I talked to one of the sales guy there and he mentioned that the Venza arrived three weeks ago and they have sold 28 units already.

And those are all V6 models.  I4s have yet to arrive and they will be by far the volume sellers.

As a side note, this CUV is really attracting the mature crowd, based on the folks waiting for a test drive.

Yep, ppl with money.  That's always a good demographic.  :)

Yeah but even replacement all-season tires have to cost quite a bit. I think Toyota was just plain stupid to go with big tires like that on this type of vehicle. Major mistake IMO.

Odd.  First time reading any test by anyone saying the vehicle was rough....

I thought I'd seen this somewhere else, but I don't remember where.  Anyway, Toyota put looks (oversize wheels and lower-profile tires than is a good match for the suspension) ahead of practicality with the Venza.  They're not the only ones who have ever done this--Infiniti SUVs do this a lot too--but you're not going to have wheels THAT big without consequences.

Do the Camry wheels come with a gray plastic wheelcover too?

Yeah, they would be the only ones willing to overpay for a Camry wagon. ;-)

I certainly don't have a problem with Infiniti doing this... They're a luxury brand, and they vehicles sell for upwards of $50k and $60k... I doubt anyone will decide against buying a FX45 because it has big expensive tires... but I certainly can see many people thinking that way about the Venza. It just doesn't compute... why would you want to spend that much money on tires for this mainstream of a vehicle... I just doesn't make sense at all!

Does anyone really think that Toyota would have the audacity to put 19 or 20" tires on the Camry? Of course not. Why then put them on the Venza??

People don't think that far ahead for the most part.  They buy the car, then in 3 years they are in for a shock.

Yup, have seen it first hand while shopping for tires this fall.  Lady with a RAV4 with 18" wheels had a fit when she was given quotes for snow tires in her size.  Twice what I paid for my 16" Blizzacks and she was not getting high end tires   ;D  And I remember when the F150 97 redesign came out and the top of the line had 17" tires, the tire shop said it was going to be $1,000 per tire  :o

Also real poor selection in those large sizes it seems.

Same thing happened to a fellow in front of me at Canadian Tire. He wanted 20" snowtires for his truck. He walked away with a very stunned look on his face. I think the snowtires were over $1300 plus tax and installation.

$1300 each? Or $1300 for all 4?

If $1300 for all four that sounds like a good deal for 20" Truck snowtires.

I believe it was for a set. Still a lot or scratch for tires.

Then the 235/65/17 is what I'd go for.  Closest to the original size, but with a narrower width.  Also, since you mentioned it's the most popular of the three, I'd assume that also means the least expensive.

Yep....Tirerack has a decent selection in that size starting around $110 (US). (Blizzak DM-Z3)

The killer was the amount they offered me in a 15 month old Highlander on trade. Less then 1/2 of msrp.
Needless to say; the highlander is not getting traded in.

wow, what a surprise.  not.  same thing kinda happened to me.  i left the dealership in total disgust.  i noticed that the venza was really noisy.  too noisy.

so anyway, toyota sucks.  can't wait to unload this piece of crap 2005 4Runner.  never been so disappointed with something in my life (my 1997 runner, however, is awesome...).  pretty interesting that another dealership offered me over 7K more for a trade in. hmm.  that just adds to my overall disgust with the local place.

air balancer:  hi :)

i guess that's my next question for this forum...today i went into the dodge dealership.  i was checking out the 2009 jeep sahara.  wow, its really cool.  lots of neat features.  the sales guy was wonderful and has offered to let me take the 2007 one that they've got on the lot for a half day.  he said you cannot decide on buying something after a 15 minute test drive.  so on monday i'm taking it out for a few hours.  i'm excited :)

does anyone know anything about these jeeps?  its the 4 door one, automatic transmission.  i did check out the review area on here but dont see anything for the sahara.  the sales dude told me that there won't be any difference in the ride on the used '07 as compared to the new '09.

The smarter older folks who don't buy these overpriced Toyota machines all head down to the Buick dealershiop and get a much smoother riding vehicle with higher ratings on them for less money as well. They are not all as stupid as you think.  :) ;D  :rofl2:
