I had a 09 venza V-6 AWD for the day to test drive. this one had the leather/sunroof package. I really wanted to like this vehicle. The price is right & you get a lot of bang for the buck. Anyway the fit & finish is very good. The interior is very comfy & everything fits perfect. stereo is about average sound quality for a 30k vehicle. The engine has a lot of grunt & the acceleration really surprised me. Sitting position is like a large car; not suv like at all. Now for the bad part On the highway you could feel every small bump. it,s worse in town. There is also a huge amount of road noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. This is a noisey rough vehicle on the highway. The electric steering is very heavy feeling on the highway also. My Highlander is way more smoother & quieter on the road. The killer was the amount they offered me in a 15 month old Highlander on trade. Less then 1/2 of msrp. Needless to say; the highlander is not getting traded in.

I wonder if the 20" wheels made the ride bumpier, to much rim not enough tire |

That is very possible. Plus, often dealerships have not bothered to check the tire pressures, and often they can be very high for shipping. I can't imagine why Toyota would intentionly market a vehicle that rode like a lumber truck. My guess is there was probably about 45 pounds in each tire. |

My guess is there was probably about 45 pounds in each tire. Funny you mention that. My friend who just bought the 2009 F-150 experienced just that...over-inflated tires. He was wondering why his new ride felt crap-tastic....LOL |

So PDI does not include check tire pressure?
20" low profile tires will give a harsher & noisier ride on any vehicle. |

Also very cold weather, new bushings, over inflated tires....geez...could be anything......
But 20's are definitely not known for their plush ride.... |

stereo is about average sound quality for a 30k vehicleThe unit you were testing with freight is 38K The radio is Camry issue. In Toyota Canada's perverted wisdom the JBL upgrade is packaged with the Nav and will run ya an additional 3K with taxes. In the USA, everything is essentially a la carte. Toyota vehicles all come shipped with over inflated tires by about 10 psi. I drove the exact same unit as you because that is whats being shipped and I didn't notice any undue choppy ride, but I drive a Camry SE which is rock hard and a Tundra TDR so I suppose it's what you're used to. I had no issues with the steering, but you have a point with highway road noise coming thru the rear. I was driving on slushy packed snow. I dunno if it's the tailgate or the lack of carpet. If it's an issue you will see that fixed. IMO, 20 inch tires are unnecessary. I think 18's would have done Ok, but I have yet to see the 19s. 17s would be too small. However, the VALUE unit will be the I4 and particularly in AWD. In Canada I'm thinking 90% will be ordered in I4 format. So PDI does not include check tire pressure? It's a demo, who knows. |

PPl who have tested a Camry and then the SE version have asked the salesman if there's something wrong with the car (SE that is). It's all what you're used to. Personally I like FIRM. FIRM to some is rough. |

AS -"In Canada I'm thinking 90% will be ordered in I4 format."
Maybe in your neck of the woods, but I'll bet out here the mix of V6 vs I4 is more like 50-50, and maybe even slightly more V6.

How big an area is "out here"; Alberta and BC?
Not seeing the V6 taking 50% of any market because Toyota V6 shoppers chose the premium packages something like 20:1 When is the last time you saw a Camry LE in V6 mode? That brings the retail price to 38K more or less. I'm looking at the Ontario economy and I just don't see the usual money out there.
90% is probably a little high, but I think it will closely follow Camry I4 orders which are about 85% nationally and IMO will climb higher when the 2010 model arrives. Even though gas is way down, orders for V6 Camrys have not increased (which are always the XLE or the SE in full trim) so it tells me that ppl believe gas prices will go back up.
In a year we will see. However, right now Toyota is purposely shipping only the loaded V6 model. |

Yeah but it isn't the right type of "hard". It's just a rough ride with not much benefit that I can see. It is just bone jarring for no reason. |
