I'm about to place an order from Tire Rack for the first time. I've bought from TireTrends several times in the past, and would be happy to try 1010 as well, but the savings these days are just too much to pass up.

Plus, the Tire Rack website is a joy to use. I tried to shop for wheels for my new GTI on 1010tires.com, but apparently there are "none available" for my new GTI (or even an older GTI, for that matter). Yeah, I know I could call them up and I'm sure they'd suggest plenty, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having an interweb site, don't it?

Anyway, Tire Rack will soon be sending me 4 Bridgestone RE760s (225/45R17) mounted on O.Z. Alleggeritas, plus a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3Ds and some Blizzak DM-V1s for the truck. Shipping to Canada would be a deal-killer, but I'll just pick them up at the border on our way back from our U.S. vacation.

My savings for the lot will be over $1,000.

SiRCivic (have to change that name):  I'm picking up those exact Bridgestones next week.  I'm mounting them on my 17x7 Mazda6 replica wheels for my Mazda3 Sport GT.  Have you received them yet?!  Wondering if you like them?  Anyway, my price was only $155/ea. at a local retailer, mounted and balanced.  Plus tax, of course.

Thanks.

My question is have any of you fellow Canadians ordered tires from Tire Rack and is the freight crazy expensive?

I've ordered four inexpensive ($59) tires for my daily driver from them and had them shipped to The UPS Store for pick-up (I realize you don't have that option).

After all was said and done including installation and balancing, I saved $175.

What you should do is coincide your tire purchase with a US vacation. Tire Rack has installers all over the place.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

I just picked them up at the border this afternoon. The new car has yet to arrive (end of the month, hopefully), so I wont get a chance to try them for a while.

I chose them based on the test results from Tire Rack and a Car&Driver review: seemed like a good compromise between performance and value, but the deciding factor for me was their low tread-noise. I was also tempted by the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, but the new GTI is supposed to have a blissfully quiet highway ride, and I didn't want to mess that up too much.

Cost was $128 per tire, plus shipping ($276 total for 12 tires and four wheels).

Okay, so divide the shipping cost equally and call the total price per tire US$151. 1010 sells the same tire for CDN$185 (plus shipping) and TireTrends sells it for CDN$195 (plus shipping). Sounds like AC got a good deal on his tires, but they are also a smaller, less expensive size than mine.

Anyway, I've done the math and my total savings after all taxes was CDN$1,195 (we had the 7-day traveller's exemption, so I also didn't have to pay GST on the first $1,500). That's based on a mix of 1010 and TireTrends pricing - neither company carried all the brands/products I wanted, so I would have had to mix and match between them.
