bye bye TL/Hello Accord
« on: January 10, 2009, 05:19:50 pm »
I have planned to buy a new car in 09 and I was anxiously looking forward to purchasing the new TL, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my current one. Unfortunately Honda, decided to design and build a big ugly buck tooth giant for the new TL and I just can’t stand its looks.

Last weekend I almost pulled the trigger on a new Maxima SV with the sport package, but couldn’t come to terms with the Nissan dealer.

Was driving by my Honda dealer the other night and noticed a sharp looking Accord Coupe parked out front and remembered Wing’s positive write up about the 08 he had as a tester.  I took it for a test drive and really liked it. Honda is offering a $3,500 factory incentive which made the pricing really attractive.

So today I closed the deal and ordered a V6 EXL Auto, black, with black leather. Bought it at Pickering Honda and they were good and fair to deal with, $3,500 factory rebate and $845 over the Car Cost Canada wholesale price.

I will post pictures when I get it

Congrats, Allen. The Accord Coupe is very sharp, much nicer lines than the sedan IMO.

Great choice!  I have always admired the Accord coupes!  I don't really appreciate Honda and Acura new front end styling efforts.  The shield just doesn't work for me.  I read somewhere that some dealers are painting the shields body colour to soften the look somewhat.

Enjoy your new car and post some pics.

On the Acurazine site the majority of Acura owners do not like the new TL, also many dealers in the states are painting the front grill to tone it down... its very sad what Acura did to the new TL

I must be in the minority.  I kinda like it..though I like cars with bold, modern designs (TL, GTR, CTS, etc..).

I would get it in black and paint the grillle black....

:iagree:  It's a polarizing design, to be sure, but I think it looks good.

That said, the body-coloured shields are a nice touch...  definitely make the TL look classier, but not nearly as aggressive.

From those pics I'd want one with the grille painted body colour.

Whatever gets painted after the fact will need to be 3m'd as well. Stones beat hell out of a front end let alone a front end that's been painted over factory finish. Try to get the dealer to warranty it.
Definately an improvement though. What the fack was Acura thinking?

Lots of Accord coupes showing up around where I live. Must say its a nice looking design. The front could be a bit better but its helped by the fact that almost every other new Honda/Acura design looks worse up front.

Congrats!

Edit: with some paint work on the grille things do look quite a lot better:

Honda, the fact that this is happening is pretty sad. Somebody's head is going to roll!

A very sharp looking car Allen...good on ya for pulling the trigger.

I don't mind the side profile or the rear end of the TL rrocket...but comparing it to the CTS?  Not even close in my eyes rrocket-man...the CTS is very solid, and the detailing is bang-on.

I'm glad I waited to read your whole post Allen, as I was going to recommend you try out the G8 or even the CTS...assuming you were going from a 4-door to a 4-door...missed one darn it!

Congrates on the new car. The Accord coupe is a nice looking unit.
I,too must be in the minority as I like the look of the 09 TL. I think they look better in person. Saw three on the road yesterday.

The Accord Coupe is a very sharp ride. Much better than the frumpy sedan and miles ahead of the truly hideous TL. I would have gone with the stick to better enjoy that sweet VCM-free V6, but that's just my preference.  Enjoy.

Awesome car!  I was considering the manual V6, it's certainly a lot of car for the money, and looks great too!

After seeing the pics of the TL with a colour-matched grille... it makes me wonder what a TL in ANY colour would look like with a blakc-chrome grille instead of a bling-bling chrome grille.  I actually think the black-chrome would look great -- classy, still very edgy, and not as slap-you-in-the-face bold as the chrome one.

Congrats on the new Accord coupe - awesome cars.
