Door not opening
« on: December 28, 2008, 01:21:03 pm »
I have a problem with my drivers door.  I made a stop came back to the car and noticed the door wasn't closed completely.  So I tried to open it and it wouldn't.  So I pushed the closed and it still wouldn't open.  I tried opening it from the inside and that didn't work.  It's +4 so it can't be ice.  Any ideas?

Stupid question, but it is unlocked, right?

Pull the handle from inside and give it a shoulder tackle.  You may have to put one leg in the passenger footwell to get your shoulder low enough not to hit the window.  That should get it open if the seat belt is stuck in the latch.

I'm not sure if this is what fixed it or not but I punched the outside handle a few times and it seemed to work after that.

How often do you lubricate the latches?  I use a dry graphite lubricant on the latches and "Honey Goo" penetrating oil on the hinges.  You might even want to take off the trim panel and lubricate the inner workings.

What happened possibly was the rod that pulls the release inside may have got jammed or bound up which can occasionally cause this type of problem. Usually I have had to take the inner door panel off and lube it at the connections where it joins the inner working parts. Moisture can cause it to seize up and will power windows the actuator for the powerlock can have the grease dry out and virtually freeze also. I would just respray with new grease and it would work better.  :)
