Yep. I've seen some with aluminum bases and wood - they don't seem to rot.

Sure that makes sense, guess it depends on the builder...

Stained my deck this weekend.  First step was to use a wood cleaner on the flat surfaces as the deck is over two years old and the dirt buildup and aging of the wood was noticeable.  I used a Super Deck wood cleaner by Duckback.  Worked well.  I applied the cleaner with a pump sprayer, scrubbed with a stiff bristle broom and rinsed.  The only recommendation I would have is to stain within a year, as some boards have a different shade from the stain depending on how much sun exposure they receive.

Cleaning showing the difference:

Staining completed, including shed area under top level:

Oh, and I also bought a new gas grill.  Ended up getting a Saber 500, although the company wasn't even on my radar when I started looking.  After looking at Weber, Napoleon, and Vermont Castings the Saber was the clear winner.  The Vermont Castings was nice, but even the most base model was out of my price range.  This grill will be replacing my 11 year old Vermont castings, which I was very happy with.

The Saber uses infrared cooking, I won't get into too much detail but their website can be found at https://www.sabergrills.com/index.aspx.

I like that. I am going to do the bay window in the beige (to compliment the windows above), but that's a job for next summer. I am a little worried about painting the fresh vinyl or whatever material that bay window frame is made out of though?

I'll check with the supplier what exactly they use on vinyl and let you know.
