2010 Chevy Equinox
« on: December 21, 2008, 05:48:36 am »
Very nice-looking compact crossover.  Think new Saturn Vue, but with direct-inject engines to boost fuel economy.  It looks very competitive with the class leaders right now.

Quote
With 182 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque running through a new 6-speed automatic transaxle, this model will be the fuel efficiency champ of the lineup. The front-drive four-banger should get 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

For comparison, the inline-four FWD RAV4 is rated at 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and the FWD CRV is rated at 20 city, 27 highway.

Quote
Those who need the full 3,500 lbs of towing grunt will opt for the new 3.0L V6. Like the four-cylinder, this one is direct-injected to the tune of 255 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque.

Rather good looking. Side rear window treatment looks like one from a certain German manufacturer and that's good. I suspect that using the Saturn chassis might bring about the same weight issues - as in too much.

The side window treatments look like the previous-generation Impreza wagon to me, not that that's a bad thing.

Oddly, this doesn't share the same side window design as the Opel Antara, upon which it and the Vue are based:

I'm up late.  It's 4:40 am and I'm about to go to bed.  I let myself do this once every couple weeks...staying up most of the night, playing computer games (the latest vice is Enemy Engaged: Comanche versus Hokum, a helicopter combat simulator).  Sometimes check forums partway through the evening.

I barely drink, I don't gamble, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs...but this is one vice I allow myself :)

Very sharp, if good quality is included this is the sort of thing that will save GM.  Bring them on!.

Staying up late is a vice ?    I get up at 5:00 am usually... is this a vice too or is it a virtue ?     ;D

Computer games are a vice (though a pretty mild one IMO).  Staying up late?  Entirely depends on why.

Gotta have something... I'm the same.  Video games is it. Good for the brain generally although not great for the carpal tunnel.

I have to be positive about this car as well.  I haven't seen it in person but this is what GM should have been doing a few years back.  Still I won't harp on that.  This looks REALLY good...like it came from VW or Honda or something like that.  And the interior is very modern, high-tech, and looks really nicely put together in the promo shots.  Much more impressive than before.  Also the engine technology is finally moving forward and again that seems to look REALLY good.  The I4 is looking really good for the average family that isn't hauling much stuff around but needs decent highway power...also the fuel economy also looks really good.

All of their comments about how it was impossible to make more fuel efficient cars without big extra costs seems to ring a bit hollow now.  It seems like a bit of a push plus some really good R&D have made some big strides here.  I'm optimistic here.  Going to tell my parents to have a look at it...they may be sworn off domestic automakers right now but they should at least have a look.

It's not my piece of pie, but I think it will appeal to much more buyers, especially the domestic buyers or those neutral.

The powertrains are impressive, at least on the paper. I think though it will be a 4000+ lbs. CUV with AWD, which will affect its performance.
The cargo space is not that impressive though for a rather big "small" CUV (Edmunds reports less cargo than the outgoing model - some 31.x cu. ft.).

Now, not to sound negative, I think it's a very competitive vehicle overall.

I suspect it will hold its own for sales in this style of market. Definitely a nice looking design and will be competitive for this type of driver.  :)
