GM confirmed in November that there won't be a gen-2 G8, so the car is already an orphan (it doesn't remove its qualities, but involves prurchasing gambling at 40k$ if you don't plan running it into the ground).  The same memo mentioned a similar fate for the Solstice.  The "ute" version (G8 ST) might no be coming after all, and Pontiac is done as a division by 2012. GM ponders making it a niche brand, with anywhere between one and three model lines.

No trunklid lining for a $37k car? GM's really trying to cut costs eh?
Heh, at least they figured out the hinges unlike some manufacturers we know  Tongue

I don't see how its a gamble because they discontinue it?

It can be serviced at any GM dealer. Parts shouldn't be an issue becuse its based on the Holden so there are parts out there. Warrantey is through GM (unless they totally dissapear which is unlikley).

Sounds like there could be real deals to be had when its time to clear them out.

Ugh...very much looking forward to your impressions...but checking in on the car, I find the GM website terrible.

Do customers really want to know about the 1SA, 1SB, etc packages?

When I click on details for the 1SA package I get "Includes 1SA"...ya...no sh** Sherlock.

Edit - It's not even consistent...building the CTS, they do have 3.6L there before they make you click twice to see what 1SA is...even though the 3.6L never freakn' changes through the model line-up. Head Shake

Yep. Unfortunatelly it's not the only one. Honda Accord is another one I can remember.

I think the lined trunk-lid is the new dash stroking.   Wow.

Great car.  The design is great but the two hood scoops really ruin the front end.  They look like they were tacked on.

Looking forward to day 3.

If GM slims down its car lines, could a version of this be the new cop car.   Maybe stretched 6 inches?   I remember the Fuzz saying that the FWD Impalas were rubbish as cop cars and I imaging a stretched and decontented Cadillac CTS or STS would still be a bit expensive.

IMO it might have the driving dynamics of a cop car, but with it's design (ie. console mounted shifter, relatively smaller interior room then the Crown Vic), it might not be as ideal as the Crown Vic. Mind you, this IS a cop car where it came from..  CityPig

Will Crown Vics survive 2009 ?     depends how well Ford weathers the year I guess.

This looks like a great car and I know it is fun to drive but with GM sending out a official letter to the public basically stating that their products are not up to industry standard for quality, why take the risk on rear wheel drive fun when there are other cars on the market that are a lot more reliable.  Will GM offer loaners for every dealership to use while your car is in the shop?

No winter tires??

Standard tires are 18s. That's gonna be some spensive winter tires.

Even with winters it probaly isn't going to be great.

I guess I haven't read the one that says their cars ARE NOT up to industry standard for quality. I did read one that sounded like this:

Today, we have substantially overcome our quality gap; our newest designes like the Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac CTS are widely heralded for their appeal  http://paultan.org/archives/2008/12/09/gm-apologizes-to-the-american-taxpayer/

There must be another one floating around...

Oh...BTW...looking forward to hearing about the G8s snow experiences tomorrow...
