If I were to pick a car to be the perfect winter run-about, I suspect it would have some bits in common with my tester for this week. It's too bad you (the reader) have already seen the title and pictures of this week's car or I could have you guessing -- so without further ado, this week's test vehicle is the Audi TTS Roadster! On the plus side, if you want a convertible and a car you can drive all year round, the TTS is probably the best choice out there. A Gallardo Spyder is hardly practical in the winter, after all...  |

A perfect winter run-about is a roadster?? Ummmm.....Ok. Whatever you're smoking in Ottawa....hit it and pass it, dude....  Wouldn't your last test car be the perfect PERFECT winter run about since it has all of your needs minus the undesirables?? |

that thing's  make it a coupe and black... and it would be even more What's up with Audi Canada these days, too many cars in their press fleet?  Is there an A8/S8 sitting around, I bet wing will be more than pleased to have it for a week... |

For the same money, I'd consider a 335i xDrive sedan/coupe. Don't get me wrong, I actually put a deposit down on a TT years ago but sense and sensibility got the better of me and I never went through with the purchase.
I currently have a RWD car (with good winter tires) and would seriously consider the move to AWD. The difference in wet/slippery conditions is quite remarkable. |

I'd rather have an A4 or a nearly new A6 for that money please. The TT is pretty but not a car that one would want to own just to look at. |

No. for less than $50K, have an accord for the winter and a bmw Z3 for the summer.THis is my set up after i tried a convertible all year round!

The ultimate winter runabout? Perhaps. A compromised sports car? mmm....perhapser. If you're living in an urban area with decent snow clearing, and you already have a wagon/suv for weekend trips to the cabin then, yes, this would be a good winter runabout.
But in actuality, if you already owned a wagon/SUV, why not skip this and go right for the boxster? With winter tires, the mid-engined porsche is supposed to handlle quite well in the white stuff, and my guess is it'll drive noticeably better than the Audi in the dry. Let's not forget the boxster's extra dollop of practicality, thanks to the front trunk.
Granted, the TTS has AWD, but it's so low to the ground that it will likely bottom out in more than a couple of inches of snow, making it not much better than any other low-slung sports coupe. Ground clearance issues aside, i'm sure the drivetrain would make for a great daily driver, but it would be more enticing for me in a 3- or 5-door S3 flavor. |

..the last TT...Nice TT's ........was a Professor special......looked KOOL on Campus or high end driveaways.....but was low on performance.......NEW ONE is peppier...and pricier...so Give the PROFS a RAISE......sold @ BIG BOXTER STORES.....not!!!....well that woz brief Saf.......yeah ....i has ta be professorial once inna while eh!!! |

Heck, my Sentra was scraping its belly in the unplowed streets yesterday. I can only imagine how a fwd TT would fare...
Room for the 3 kids and wife ... ooops, gotta go for an A4 Avant should I have access to such buckeroos ! |

Yeah, my P5 is like a snowplow on the residential streets, after a snowstorm. Snow flies from the ground, and onto my windshield. Even with winter tires, it gets stuck easy in snow drifts, and its quite easy to slide around in snow, due to its weight. |

I bet the lightweight P5 is tons of fun to toss around in the snow.
Meanwhile, even with decent snow tires, my m-sport 3-series has been fairly useless in the big storms we've been having. Luckily, I've got easy access to my other 'BMW' (Bus Metro Walk). |

An econobox likely wouldn't have stability/traction control, heated seats, and great stereo system unless you move up to top trim levels. Nevertheless, it would make more sense financially going that way, if you take out the emotional and fun factor away.  |

An econobox likely wouldn't have stability/traction control, heated seats, and great stereo system unless you move up to top trim levels. At least Wing'll be comfortable and have lots of toys to play with while he's waiting for the tow truck to pull him out of that 6"-deep pile of snow in front of his driveway.... |
