Drag Racing photography
« on: December 07, 2008, 12:57:17 am »
Shooting race cars has been my passion since the mid-70s and I have thousands of images on file.  Here's one from the 1984 Northstar Nationals in Brainerd, MN, the first National Hot Rod Association event I ever attended.  The is Kenny Bernstein's Nitro Ford Tempo, the first funny car to record a speed over 260 mph.

Our local track hasn't set the 2009 schedule yet, but we bracket race all summer long.  Our import crowd has been talking about organizing an import event or two.
Cool!

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen.  More to come!

Driver, Tommy Johnson Jr, blasts off from the starting line.  Location: Brainerd, MN.  I returned next year and had Tommy autograph the photo.

I would have suggested London Motorsports raceway but I know realize thats quite a drive for you from there to our area. We actually have 3 good ones in ONT including Grand Bend and Cayuga as well as Londons in our area. They are all NHRA sanctioned tracks as well. A holiday travel shoot?  :)

First round, Top Fuel Eliminator, 1997 Champion Auto Stores Nationals, Brainerd, MN.  Fuel line fails, causing Scelzi's dragster to loose traction, allowing opponent, Vicky Fanning an easy win.

Here I am with Linda Vaughn, Miss Hurst Golden Shifter, at the 1977 World of Wheels Car Show in Winnipeg. I was 14 years old. Initially, we posed standing together, but my friend had trouble with his camera. Linda went back to the table and signed a few more autographs. Once my buddy was ready, Linda told me to sit down, then she sat on my lap. You see the result in the photo. I think I became a man that day.  ;D Linda could not have been more friendly or more beautiful.
