This was the topic for heated discussion a while back.

When Nissan announced Nurberg-ring time for the GT-R, it was significantly quicker than 911 Turbo.
Porsche said the time was NOT reproducible from the GT-R Porsche had acquired themselves to test out Nissan's claim.

So, was the ring time of GT-R from one-off test ringer?

I don't know, but you can follow the link to get some more depth of understanding.

:) enjoy.

So the track was wet, they only did basically a single flying lap, and the GT-R wasn't on the better tires.  This "test" was about as useless as one I've ever seen.  It disproves...or proves nothing....
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

I think the real question of the year is, why are so many keyboard warriors that bothered about two cars they'll never buy..?

I certainly cannot afford one, unless it is in 1:18 scale. Could care less which car has a faster 'Ring time.

Agreed. I found that comment kind of odd.  ::)

I never said couldn't afford, I said never buy.  There is a big difference.

I suspect I could afford one but I'd never buy one.   I would not particularly rush out and buy a 911 either.... which I doubt that the Mistress of the Household would sanction anyway.

I can’t afford or would buy either (if I could afford them), but I’d still like to know which is faster

I'm sure that purchase may result in "other" long-term sanctions as well.

Isn't there a big brewhaha going on with some owners in the States who have poached the trannys by tryng to attain the published 0-100km times when they turn off the VDC and use the Launch Control.

Why, why does it matter?  They are both great cars.

Nissan CAN lose this one if indeed the alleged performance is not able to be replicated without blowing up the transmission.  They're definitely losers if when the transmissions grenade themselves Nissan leaves the poor owners high and dry without a warranty.

Yes I never doubted they are both great cars, but it's nice to see the underdog win or be close.

The transmissions are blowing up after numerous launch control take-offs.   Nissan has removed the launch control feature for the next model year....

...which means the acceleration figures achieved with early GT-Rs will no longer be reproduced (ie. the car can't achieve them anymore) and thus, much of Nissan's bragging right and credibility has been washed down the drain?   ;)

agreed.  nissan should shut up and fix the blown transmissions.  up until this point i think they could avoid a serious PR nightmare by simply standing behind their product.   t

The GTR's target for the Nurburgring was the 911 Turbo, not the GT2 though.  I guess the Vspec version coming up would be a better match to the GT2.

Most time I've seen for other tracks show that the GTR is faster around a track than the 911 Turbo even though the 911 has a weight and acceleration advantage.

The transmission issue is definitely an issue and it should be addressed.  Though that issue shouldn't really affect lap times on a track though...
