Wiper range of motion
« on: November 06, 2008, 08:26:48 am »
When on high speed my 2000 Honda accord's wipers hit both frame at based of windshield and then hits "A" pillar on upswing. Do not remember this happening until last year or so. Original wiper arms and only thing change is the blades with original sizes respected.

I suspect the answer is "No" but I will ask anyway.

Is there anyway to adjust the range of motion on the wiper stroke.
Living my BMW dream.

I don't think theres a way of adjusting these as they never really go out of adjustment unless the arm under the dash or cowgrill is getting worn out on the end bushing which will allow it to swing wider then it should. I have also seen them become undone by the nut that holds it onto the motor pivot shaft. That can allow it to go to far as well as it will be close to virtually falling off. Some of them also have a nylon bearing in the hole on the shaft which can wear and this will happen also. Have a close look at the moving rods for tightness if you can or see your local good garage for them to assist.  :)

New wipers wouldn't be a set of winter ones by any chance? If so, buy set one size shorter, winter wipers have a longer frame than all-season ones.

I recently changed over  to winter blades on my newer car and meausred the new winters against the summers that were on there. They were only about 1/4" longer on the ones I bought which made no difference at all but it may be the brand as well which causes this difference in length. Both sets for mine are 22". :)

Normally you won't see winter wipers in uneven size(19", 21", etc) for this reson on vehicles that use to different sizes they make up the difference by going an inch shorter in length in order to prevent the wipers from hitting each other of the body.
