Our new Mazda6 GT that replaced our 92x
« on: October 28, 2008, 01:52:32 pm »
As some of you may recall, our lease on the 92x Aero came to an end back in August. We've been busy searching for a proper replacement. Details http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php/topic,57875.0.html

In mid-August we took delivery of the last few Mazda6 GT wagon. It was delivered to our doorstep! And 3 days later, we returned the Saabaru. It was sad to see her go. But we also welcome a less frentic drive and a more refined ride.

About the car:
It is a larger car. It felt big inside. But over the last 3mths, we have grown accustomed to the size. I still get annoyed with the lousy turning circle especially at parking lots in the mall. Since this is the GT version, it is loaded to the hilt except for SatNav which we don't care for.
The hatch is great. Larger than even a CX-7! So far I've yet to max it out. Interior wise, it is a step up from the 92x. But some fit and finishes left me  ??? when my other Mazda felt more cohesively put together.

Driving the car:
This car represents a few firsts for both my wife and I. It is my first ever Automatic car! Something which I used to loath. But now that we got to drive it during our morning commute, it has earned my respect. Whereas the 92x' clutch was hard and the shifter was solid that leads to a tiring commute, the Mazda estate felt relaxed. The other First is FWD. I've never owned one before. It was AWD or RWD. 'nough said. If that 3-Touring weren't so darn small at the back, I would've kept my record clean!  ;D
Anyways with 212hp it does scoot well in M-mode. the car is quiet. Relax would be the word to describe it vs. my 92x. It gobbles up hwy mileage easily. Makes for a fine long-trip cruiser. Handling wise is fine as a wagon. Not as nimble as the 92x and V50 but it is also larger too.
So far the gas mileage is great when compared to my 92x and of course to the other Mazda.  :P

Conclusion:
After 3mths of owning it, we think it is the best choice for our circumstances. It will not win any drag races. Whereas the 92x will simply lay down the law, the mazda6 feels more discrete and relaxed (that word again). No problems with the car whatsoever.

Great car but no roof rails yet?

We are coming up on 110,000 kms, no issues and I still think its a great car. I agree about it being a great highway cruiser as we have been to both coasts with ours. Plus I can fold down the back seat and easily sleep in the back (done this many times).

Looks amazing in black.

My CL has got to be the king of wide turning circles. It's a real pain in the ass in parking lots... :-\

Excellent looking wagon you got there!

Sadly no. My wife just didn't think it was worth the $600. It would've so completed the estate-look.  :(

Appearance wise, yes.  How is rear visibility with the tint?

Fits great. Our daughter has graduated to the Britax Marathon. Lots of space in the rear seat. Legroom is more than the Legacy/Outback too.
