I offered 33K all included on the 2008, basically invoice plus pdi, taxes, etc. They were not interested in my offer. The quote was 35,600 all included for the 2008 and 37K for the 2009. what next?

According to my calculation 35.5K was a reasonable price given the false assumption of 8% PST.  I would suggest you shoot for a sale price of 34.5K.

The thing is that when you negotiate you have to know what is the most you are willing to pay.  If you can't get the car for that price, walk out the door and wait to see if they contact you.

The other thing I would advise you is to avoid developing tunnel vision here.  There are lots of other good mid-size sedans to consider like Mazda6, Camry, Altima, Sonata, Malibu, Fusion so if Honda won't play ball, someone else will.  It is a buyer's market and sometimes Honda dealers can be quite arrogant.

Even look at a CTS , the dealer may be giving out big discounts
And the warranty is good
The following programs are in effect for the first 4 years or 80,000 km* of ownership.

Cadillac No-Charge Scheduled Maintenance program pays for all regularly scheduled maintenance (excludes brakes and rotors).

The Cadillac New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers all parts and labour costs that may be incurred to correct defects in materials or workmanship for 4 years/80,000 km*.

5 year/160,000 km* Powertrain Component Limited Warranty with no deductible from the original in-service date of the vehicle. See your dealer for details.

The sheet metal rust-through coverage is 6 year/unlimited km.

8 year/130,000 km* coverage on Specified Major Emission Components

Cadillac Roadside Service provides assistance throughout Canada and the United States should you require towing, fuel delivery, a jump-start or help with a flat tire or lock-out situation for the duration of the Base Warranty Coverage Period. See your dealer for details.

CTS finished at the bottom of consumer reports reliability this year - I would seriously suggest avoiding this vehicle given the uncertainty around GM.  You're better off with a Malibu and its high level of reliability even if the incentives aren't as good.

Honda has good reviews. It's very solid, nice to drive, quality interior :) The guys at my garage advised against buying a Malibu. I'm going to make another offer today as they're running low on the 08s. Wish me luck.

Initial quality of Malibu was better than Accord from JD Power.

Consumer Reports only has the Accord slightly higher.

Truedelta.com doesn't have much info yet on the Malibu but 15 owners have had no problems so far which agrees with the above findings also.

GM as a whole still has alot of quality issues but Malibu looks like a winner for them so far.

this deal would amounts to approximately $4675 below invoice (factoring in the the rebate). I am sure Honda wants to sell cars but they are not desperate enough to go that low. A more resonable offer would be 500 to 1000$ profit.
I would go back with an offer starting at 34700 to 35200

It wouldn't be as big a deal if we knew GM was going to be around for sure and warranties were going to be honoured.

Someone shopping for an Accord is usually looking for a bit of performance, safety, reliability and value and the Malibu delivers on all of these and GM dealers may be more willing to deal right now.
