185/65R15 vs 195/60R15
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:30:30 pm »
Can I replace my current 195/60R15 tires with some new 185/65R15 tires that I have available? There is minimal circumference difference but I was wondering if the 10mm width difference had much effect on load bearing, etc.

Shouldn't matter.  I'm assuming you're not going to be auto-xing or anything....

Should be ok if your rims are not wider than 7".

Shouldn't be any problem - I've switched back and forth between 195/55R15 and 185/60R15 on my car. That's not to say there won't be any difference in handling and performance, though. But probably not a huge difference if the two tires are of similar construction.

As for load capacity, the two tires are probably the same, or at worst, very close. Compare the load index on the 185 tires with what it says on your car's tire placard (load index is the two-digit number after the tire size - probably 86, 87,or 88 in your case). If the 185's load index is the same or higher, you're good to go. If it's lower, then check out this thread for some more info: http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php/topic,59465.0.html

Thanks for the input. Looks as if there's no problem as both have a load rating of 92H
