AC\Heat - Lawn Mower Sound
« on: October 13, 2008, 09:23:06 pm »
The fan for my AC and heat sound like a lawn mower on low speeds. Could cleaning the fan possibly fix this?  Is that something I could do myself?

It could be that something has entered the blower and is hitting the blades.  It happened to me once with a mouse. :o

I'll take a look at it tomorrow night and see. I don't spend a lot of time looking in there but to check the oil.

The squirrel cage in those motors occasionally loses a fan or a piece of it which will make it sound like the noise you describe. Geneally they are made of a white plastic and even if one blade which is rather small breaks on one spot it can do that kind of noise as it may be dragging on the others. Not a expensive thing to fix and not all that hard as well. Getting the fan motor out can be a chore depending on the vehicle involved. Hope yours is a easy one.  :)
