Test Drive:
2009 Subaru Forester 2.5X Limited

2009 Subaru Forester 2.5X LimitedBetter looks, better value, improved driving dynamics, and a broader appeal are the major upgrades to the 2009 Subaru Forester, says contributor Haney Louka.   However, its four-speed automatic transmission should have been upgraded to a five- or six-speed, he thinks.

Good review, fair and hits the low points as well as the high.

I agree in full with the trannie.  Why not a 5 speed?

BTW, I am getting 8.8 l/100 kms on the first 3,700 km of my 09 Touring.  I love it so far.

I was sitting behind a CRX today, and per Santos' points yesterday, if Honda were to bring to market first its small diesel in a CRX, I reckon it would be the fastest market share increase in a category ever seen in Canadian automotive sales history.

Canada is too small a market to tool up a model line for.

Subaru should offer a manual across the line and get rid of the silly hood scoop on the XT.

Where else would they put the intercooler for an off-roader?

As for the manual, even the James Bond actor can't drive a stick.

I don't like the hood scoop either although it's not that big as on the previous generations. Evo's scoops come to mind, as they don't stand out too much.

I'm sure that Subaru engineers and designers could've come up with a solution if they would've been told to do so. Perhaps this wasn't a requirement and the marketing folks see the rather big hood scoop as a Subaru “trademark”.

One point it is not the same engine, beside there is hope the diesel in the Forester will be here in a couple of years
