Same thing happened to me today at the Dentist. Gold plated GOV group policy with Great West Life. Just cleaning, no inspection. Dentist charges $98. GWL pays $97.03. For f***'s sake.
Similarly for me with other procedures but my dentist swallows the difference. . |

A little late to this thread.
As a fellow mazda6 owner, I feel sorry about your loss.
(I would have a hard time deciding for a replacement for the mazda6 if warranted; now the the hatch has been discontinued...)
It just seems like there is an increase in the number of impatient idiotic drivers these days. Been honked, cut-off from intersections while waiting for traffic to pass way too many times the past month. |

So, I finally got the call this afternoon to pick her up, exactly 2 months to the day from the crash. Found out that the other driver managed to find his proof of insurance and therefore my deductible was waived. Bonus! I went over it quickly and so far it seems the repair is fairly good. Things I have noticed so far are: - On the right side where the most damage happened the plastic bumper cover is not quite flush with the fender, its very very close though.
- Hatch closing thud seems different... a bit more raw metal on metal sound...
- The driver's control for the passenger window does not work and auto down/up with one click does not work.
- Several broken clips for plastic trim inside and outside.
- Lots and lots of fine dust everywhere... everything is filled with dust. On the surface it has been wiped off, but if you look loser it's still there...
- The key for the locking lug nuts is missing.
Driving feel is the same thank god! At first it felt kind of small after having driven an Impala for so long. I immediately noticed that the seats feel better to me because of the side supports. Now if I can get that lug nut key and get my winters on... |

Take the car back and get it PERFECT. Every little detail fixed. Don't let them get away with a so-so repair job... |

Funny. I was going to say pick your battles. If the rear trim is only slightly off and you think you can live with it, the don't bother. The hatch closing "differently" is something worth keeping an eye on, but again I wouldn't bring it up.
I think of you go in guns-a-blazing complaining about every little thing the shop will be less accommodating and more difficult to deal with.
However, I would bug them about the rest as it's fairly major stuff.
Based on my experience the car is never going to be 100% again. It'll be close (even VERY close) but when you're up close you'll see the repaired areas.
Regardless, congrats on getting the car back... I know how gratifying it is to drop off the rental and get back to `zoom-zooming`.

I'd politely ask that the broken clips be replaced and the lug key be returned or replace. Broken clips = more squeak and rattles. Also have they look at the switch.... blow it out with compressed air first though. The contacts may be dirty from all the dust. The dust... just have it detailed by a good interior detailer. The plastic on the bumper... probably almost impossible to get it back to factory spec. Pick and choose your battles. The other stuff just isn't worth the aggravation. |

Disagree that other stuff isn't worth the agrevation. I work with many insurance compaines appraisers and body shops. On the right side where the most damage happened the plastic bumper cover is not quite flush with the fender, its very very close though. I agree may be within specs with a little gap. I see gaps from the factory sometimes too. Your may have been good from the factory but there mey be other undamaged cars that have the same gap don't fight Hatch closing thud seems different... a bit more raw metal on metal sound... It may simply need to be adjusted. Its very common to have to have hatches and trunks adjusted for closing even on undamged cars. Get it checked. The driver's control for the passenger window does not work and auto down/up with one click does not work. If this worked before then it should work now. They may not have tested this so its perfectly reaonable that if you make them aware it should be fixed ASAP Several broken clips for plastic trim inside and outside. Uacceptable - Vehcile should be repaired to before accident conditon period. Lots and lots of fine dust everywhere... everything is filled with dust. On the surface it has been wiped off, but if you look loser it's still there... Unacceptable cleaning the car thoughrougly for delivery is accepted practice. The key for the locking lug nuts is missing. An easy oversight but they need to be responsible Everything except the bumper I would immediatley bring to the attention of the bodyshop (nicely). If they do not respond as you wish very quickly I would bring it to your insurance company ASAP. The insurance company can bring huge pressure on a shop if they are not fixing the vehicle properly to your satisfaction. The insurance company would be very unappy iof the shop say charged them for new clips but used old broken ones. Dust and broken clips are simply not accepatble repair pracitce. |

Sounds like quite significant oversight on part of the bodyshop. I've had my car's bumpers replaced twice. Car was thoroughly detailed both times. Broken clips and if the window switches were working before, thats a major oversight. Same as the different noise from the hatch.
Did you get some sort of workmanship guarantee as well? Most insurance companies would back that as they are the ones paying. |

my brother had a similair situation when his 240 was rear ended, after getting it back from the body shop there were dust contaminates in the paint on the hood, you could see little bumps all across it. (his car gets calybar'd every other month, and is glass smooth, he is a detailed kind of guy... ) he went back and talked to the body shop and they said; 'it a nissan not a lamborghini..' back through icbc, the shop eventually resprayed it, but told him they wouldn't work on his car again.. which of course was fine with him.. |

I got the lug key back and managed to install my winter tires today. The garage does guarantee their work and I am making a list for them and will bring it back there in a few days... I said it before and I will say it again... It looks like the body repair is very good, its the details that are not perfect... yet |

OK, I guess you're right... It will be a hassle to get everything sorted out to my satisfaction and that's not right. Unfortunately that's how the industry seems to work. Most people would not bother going back. I really don't want to go back... after two months I am tired of dirty, smelly and poorly made cheap rentals. And the repair is about 90% in my estimate which might be generous. I could say to my self it really isn't so bad and just forget it. Not easy, but might be doable. Two days ago my windows started working OK, auto up/down & driver control for passenger are working again. Except one time, I clicked up the driver window and it closed all the way automatically - that's what it should do. But then it opened again by itself all the way down.... WTF?!? Clicked it back up and it was OK this time. It's been working OK since but I didn't like this gremlin. Today I got the check engine light on.... After work I was driving by Nissan dealer and I pulled in... I tried out an '08 Altima coupe v6 mt & loaded... nice car... mrsp $35,400 and $5,500 incentive... OK that could work I thought... So, how much for my trade? $12,000 Less then half of what I still owe on it... OK that won't work... Guess I have to go deal with the body shop after all.. . |

I had the error codes checked by a friend who's got one of them OBD readers and then I checked them on-line... A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened: * Bad vacuum switch * Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister * Open in PCM purge command circuit * Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid * Faulty purge solenoid * Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister * Corrosion or resistance in purge connector * Bad PCM A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: * A loose or improperly affixed gas cap * A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) * Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system It's not the gas cap it's the first thing I checked. As I understand, the EVAP system would be located around the gas tank, near where damage occurred and repair work was done... !!! I got a botched repair!!! ARGHHH!!!! |

It will be interesting to hear from you as to how and in what manner this gets fixed. Who pays for what? More rental car? How long is the guarantee for and on other non yet discovered items. 6 months, 1 year, 5 years ? |

I've not been back to the body shop. I will post about my experience here after I go... There are several things I want them to fix but some of them can't be seen when the car is covered in salt. I was thinking about waiting 'till spring... as long as I own the car warranty will be tested. I have a feeling that some of the things will not be fixed but we will see. Found out today that I get a 15% increase in insurance premiums because I loose the "claims free" discount and also my depreciation waver is valid for four years?! I thought it was two & about to expire... Hmmm.... |
