Outlandish
« on: September 26, 2008, 10:11:45 pm »
So first of all, bye bye Impala!

We've had an Impala for a month as a rental, I was expecting it to be really bad due to the constant GM bashing on this forum, but to be honest it wasn't bad at all.  OK, is was a bit wafty suspension-wise, and drank gas faster than I liked.  The seats were crap, no side support whatsoever, and the amount of bings and bongs that go off in the car is just bloody annoying, yes I know I've got the keys in, the door is open, and I haven't got my seatbelt on, I'M  FREAKIN' ADULT!

The really disoncerting thing is that the tyres squealed around every corner, and I mean every corner, like even at 5mph!  It sounded like I was in Smokey and the Bandit, it was ridiculous.  Are some of the tyres really that bad or is the suspension also to blame?

But, it had a massive trunk (see, I didn't say boot!), was easy to drive, loads of room inside even with a forward and a rearward facing car seat in the back. And the engine was pretty smooth, OK it's not a performance car but it's not meant to be.  It's waftastic!

 ;D

So, picked up the Outlander last week!  It will be our only car for a bit, until I get one for me next year.  I love it, supposedly very reliable, not bad handling for a CUV, I trust the brand, and being a 2006 model with only 12K on the clock it still has 150K of drivetrain warranty on it, which is impressive.  Plus 3 years of other stuff warranty, it's essentially just run in.  The other thing which made me choose it over a normal sized car/wagon is that when people come over to visit we can squeeze up the kids seats and fit one adult in the back temporarily.

It is actually much easier to drive than the Impala, feels much thinner on the road as it's not a big car at all, certainly not SUV size.  Jen loves it too which is important to me.

K-W Mitsubishi served me very well indeed (especially given the temporary SIN), so I might be going back there in future!

Plus with the insurance quote of just over $1800, I am very impressed with how it all came together.

 ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations on the Outlander, fellow Mitsubishi owner .  I got my Lancer from from KW Mitsubishi but they managed to tick me off enough that I go to Wilson Mitsubishi in London now for all my Mitsu needs and they've proven very decent to deal with. I never actually used KW mitsu's service department (their Business Manager angered me before I ever had a need to use their service department >:() but have read good things on a couple of mitsu specific forums I check out on occasion.

What? Only one photo? How about some interior shots of the front and trunk?

Congrats! I like the looks of these things as they stand out a bit from the crowd. When you run out of space, just add a roof box. PM me if you want to know where to get one for a good price.

Cool thanks, I know I've been a bit slack with the photos, so much going on at the moment...

My sales guy was Neil and he was OK. It was the Business manager (Marianne I believe) who left me P.O'd though Neil does have some responsiblity in the issue I had with them and certainly isn't getting any recommendations from me. I apologize for bringing this up as I never vented on my problems with them before and shouldn't have raised it now while your celebrating your new Vehicle.

If your experience with the vehicle itself is similiar to mine with the Lancer, you'll be appreciating it more every day. I've put 33000 km on the lancer in the last year or so and am enjoying it more every day.  At this point when it's time to trade, the Lancer Ralliart is going to get some serious consideration

Now Bob, just get it to Krown for a rust proof treatment. The salt they use here in the winter is very tough on the cars.

I was wondering whether I should or not, does a new(ish) car really need it, what's the view on here as I didn't really get a straight answer in the other thread...

Rust treatment is best applied from the start if your going to keep the car as it is to prevent the car from starting to corrode. If you wait till the car is 4 years old and some corrosion cells are started rust proofing is to late.  If you only anticipate keeping the Outlander for a couple of years it may not be beneficial to you. If you expect to keep it for a long time then Krown is definitely a good Idea.
I know some places sell an electonic corrosion preventing box, but I have yet to find a single person who can say it definitely made a difference. Using Krown or oiling  the car I can find a ton of people who say has worked.

That was pretty quick, it took you only 4 years to cross the Atlantic Ocean to Canada.  :)

Rust treatment couldn't hurt.  I noticed my VW is rusting quite a bit after 10 years.  Before that it wasn't noticeable.   Too late now...

Just do it Bob. It's not that expensive and it helps. I you want to go the cheap way, get a can of Rust Check from Crappy Tires and spray the car yourself.
I paid around $650 for each car at the dealer and I regret it. I should've gone for Krown from day one, but now it's too late; I spent too much already on rust proofing. I will go for the cheap way and spray the cars myself every year from now on and maybe I'll manage to keep the rust on check. If you don't do anything, the rust will start showing in few years.
