Are either one of these a good polisher or should I buy a porter cable witch is much more expensive?

The simoniz is very close to the 7424 pc except it does not have the higher rpm,s that you rarely use anyway. The pc does have a better selection of pads too tho.

I don't think either of those are random orbital sander / polishers, they sound like they just spin.  Which means they are great sanders and potentially dangers polishers because they could burn the surface if you are not very careful with it.

I have the Simonize unit myself whichs spins and have different pads for ewach vehicle because of the colour changes on them. It works quite well but you do have to be careful lke Wing suggests. I use McQuires Swirl Free polish with them which really does a nice job on my cars and truck. The Portar Cable units are excellent but the price is a lot higher.

Don't even bother with the others.  Just get the Porter Cable 7424.  If you shop around on the web, you can get a 7424 with pads for the same or less than just the polisher at a retail store.  I've tried others and once I bought a 7424, I wondered why it took me so long...You won't be disappointed.

Your best bet, hands-down is either the PC DA Polisher, or the one offered by Meguiars. Personally (and this is not because I sell the Meguiar's one) the DA Polisher made by Meguiars is the better buy due to the lifetime warranty that comes with it (not to mention the carrying case and what not). I have the G110 DA Polisher - which is the new and re-designed version, available for $199, however I am in the midst of getting my christmas specials together so there will be a special kit put together with the right pads, product suggestions, etc..

I should also add, that my team and I use this polisher for detailing our clients' vehicles.. so I have the proper product mix with pad combinations that have been proven time and time again to deliver top-notch results.

I have owned an orbital polisher for years now. When new I did used it but the novelty wore off quickly. I wax 2 cars twice a year and never use the polisher anymore. I find it more trouble than it is worth. I find it easier and more effective to do by hand.

My advice is save your money.

If you still want one I have a good used one for sale...

Are you talking waxing or polishing? For waxing I agree, I generally lay down the wax by hand or with an old simoniz waxing orbital. I then remove by hand withsome microfibre towels. For light-medium polishing there is no way that can be done by hand. Porter Cable all the way.

I have been hand waxing for years now and am ready to move up to a electric polisher/buffer/waxer. Next spring I intend to use a clay bar and polish the 4Runner before I wax.

I notice that Canadian Tire has the Simoniz waxer/polisher on sale for $50. Is this the same style as the porter cable - does it oscilate as well as spin. I want to purchase the best so from what I'm reading that may be the Porter Cable 7424 or the Meguir G110. Are these polishers available from any Canadian retailers? Thanks.

Stay away from simoniz or craftsman, no matter how cheap they are selling them.

The easiest and best polisher? The PC 7424 by far. Easy learning curve as well and you won't damage your paint. You get what you pay for and you can find the PC on ebay or through eshine.ca (talk to Chris, he has packages available with the PC).

Simoniz is like fast food in terms of quality detailing products... crap!

I do not know about quality of all Simoniz products but the pressure washer I owned was maybe... just maybe..... the worst product I have ever owned. Poorly designed and completely unreliable.

Sadly I convinced 3 of my friends to buy it because I thought is was such a great price when on sale. I think out of the 4 we purchased maybe one still works.

Sorry for reviving an almost 6 month old thread, however for those looking at picking up an OTC polisher like the Simoniz please do not waste your money.  The Simoniz units simply do not supply enough speed (RPMs) to properly break down a polish and remove paint imperfections.  If you want to use one to apply your favorite sealant or carnuba that is fine, but for paint correction it just will not get the job done.  A PC 7424 or Flex 3401 is what you should look at (outside of a rotary) if you are looking at removing paint imperfections.  Any questions, just let me know.

At $119, its a good deal and I almost ordered one, but now that I have seen some others, I prefer the handle that goes over the top of the unit like the Griot's or Flex.

I have the 7424, and while the Flex is awesome, the cost of $300 USD is a bit much.  FWIW, you can hold the "head" are of the 7424 in your palm.
