Saw A Hyundai Genesis Today On The 407....
« on: September 19, 2008, 11:30:45 pm »
He was really flying on the 407 :skid:

I recognized the grill as he was zooming along and passing everyone behind me. :o

I liked the rear end as he passed me big time as I got out of the fast lane so he could get fly by (I was going a paltry 130 km/hr at the time). He was easily doing 160 km/hr plus.

One thing about regularly driving the 407 is the cool cars that populate the highway. In addition to BMWs, MB, Lexus, Porche, Audis etc are the Bentleys, Mazeratis, and the occasional Ferrari that I am lucky enough to drive along.

In a sea of cars the Genesis stood out and other drivers were checking it out as well. The car has a serious presence and a look of quality. Very nice! :)

I said Genesis on the rear end of the car. :)

I would have loved to have kept up with it but I only have 1.7L of fuel sipping "power" in my commuter/sales vehicle Civic. :P

Like this one? I like them even better with the 'Bentley' type badge on them like in Seoul.

I saw on a dealership. Looks like nothing else from Hyundai. The Bentley badge adds another 20 grand to the car.

There was one at the dealer when I bought my Forester (the Subaru and Hyundai dealers are sharing space until the new Hyundai dealership is open across the street).  $42,000 for a Hyundai?  That is the only thing that I question.  Very nice looking for sure but that price....... :P

Wow that has to be a first, people getting excited by Hyundai. Things must be on the up for that company. :)

Ummmm...a 130 in a Yaris. I bet that is buzzy. ;)

He said he was in his 1.7L Civic.

Anyway. Its a nice car, especially for the price. That "Bentley" badge looks awesome too.

Yes but he also has a Yaris. Since Zoo said a 130 km was paltry. I wonder if he drove the Yaris as quick. :)

What does matter it was stupid lame arse comments anyway. :hide:

One of the partners at my firm recently got a Genesis V6.  It's a superb-looking car (except for the cheap-looking wheels), and it has a lot of "luxury sedan" presence, even if the styling is a little generic and derivative.

It's wonderful to ride in.  Materials are absolutely top-notch (my boss has the optional leather-covered dash, for the record), and build quality doesn't give up an inch to Lexus or Mercedes, in my opinion.  It feels like a rolling bank-vault in the same way a Merc does, and the engine is silky-smooth and quiet.  Heck, the entire car is library-quiet.

My understanding is that it floats more than a Merc or even a Lexus if you're caning it, but really, what percentage of E-Class or GS drivers actually cane their cars?  If you drive in the sedate way that most people who own these cars do, and you don't care about badge prestige, I can't think of a single area in which the Genesis lags behind.

I was in the Civic on the day in question. I try not to drive so fast but the 407 seems to run faster than the 401 and 130 on the 407 is like 120 on the 401. In fact I was doing 140 one day and trailing behind some cars and we went by an OPP car on the side of the road and he didn't do a thing to catch any of us. Those in front of me were going 150, 160 and up! :o

I wish I had cruise on the Civic. Man, I am getting bad at letting my speed creep up on the 407. I was in Ottawa a few weeks ago on a sales trip and I was pretty good at keeping myself to 120 km/hr.

On the Yaris I would not be tempted to drive at 130 km/hr. It starts to get buzzy over 120 km/hr; although there is still ample power left.

The Genesis I saw was black in colour and didn't look out of place amongst the BMWs, MBs, and Lexus that were on the 407 that day. For $42000 the car seems like a bargain to me.

Will Hyundai eventually add another Marque called Genesis or some other such name? Based on what I have seen from the Genesis so far it seems that they can develop product to play in that sandbox.

I've seen one too, east of Markham. Hyundai Canada HQ is in Markham so I'm not suprised that I see them in the area or on the 407.

I'm guessing they have lots of them since he was going 160... or maybe Hyundai wants to be on the news...  ;)

Nobody was speeding on the 407 Westbound tonight. Traffic was so slow that I was afraid we were all going to get a ticket for loitering!

There had been a 2 vehicle crash earlier and between the lane closures and gawking by drivers going by my drive went from 50 minutes or so to 2 1/2 hours. >:(

I have a trade show for the next 3 days so at least I get a break from G.T.A. traffic. Then I am in Ottawa next week which seems like a country drive compared to driving the G.T.A. ;)

I got the chance to drive one of these Puppies and believe me after driving a s550 375hp 7 speed the Genesis v8 feels just as strong with the same ride quality and a 50K lower price tag. People who say but its Hyundai need to test drive one because once your in one your a believer. This is the real deal! and BTW mine was black and believe me a nice and clean detailed Genesis gets everyone looking I had many people stop and ask me about it
