Cool! My first recollection of an automobile was a 1962 Beetle as that was the car my parents had when I was growing up in Northern Quebec. I recall not having any heat during the winter months. Then we upgraded to a Dasher  :D

Looks to be in pretty good shape - nice!  A buddy of mine had a Beetle, fully restored, and it looked brilliant.  Very elegant design still.

My old man looked at a restored one in the summer...  $17 000!  I think $500 is a steal.  :D

You basically stole that car at that price. Good for you. Does this one have the fuel gauge on the dash as I believe it was around 1961  that it became a standard item on them. My business partner would kill for one of them as he drove his for over 2 years with NO starter in it even. Just a little push and pop the clutch and he was gone. He still wants another of that vintage.  :)

This brings back memories, driving around town with friends in the cheap 'foxy', 'sabun dani (soap dish)' or 'Baleela' as its fondly called in Pakistan. The brakes were pretty scary on this.

We should get a collection of those names:
Rolling toaster = Fiat Multipla
Rolling toilet = Vespa scooter
and now the rolling soap dish...

GREAT car by the way.  I haven't seen one for a while, but when I look at your photo I realize that there must be corresponding curves on my eyeballs since they have been so ubiquitous for most of my life.

Ya, they are great fun on snow covered roads, but essentially don't have heat even if it's working. Remember those plastic defroster things for the windows.  :)

My '75 didn't have a gas heater.  I was c-c-c-cold driving in the city, but there was plenty of heat while driving on the highway.

This one apparently has some sort of heater in it but we'll see when I get home. My drive to work is short enough that I can live without one anyway.

We call what your dad had "cooties" over here, though TurboBob.   ;D

Arthur, please keep the pics coming.  I enjoy the 'process' of these old cars and getting them cleaned up / fixed up / whatever.

Cute pics.  :)  You'll need to fashion some blocks so they can reach the pedals.
