Hi,

Can you tell me more about the invisible/clear guard to protect your vehicles from rock chips and others? What is it exactly? and is it good to have it? How much does it cost and where to get it?

Thx

Hi,

Thx for the reply. I have two questions:

1- Will it be visible?
2- Will damage the original paint if it's removed?

Thx

If you care about the paint job on the car, do it. I got fed up touching up the chips and I don't want to let them untreated because they will rust in 1-2 years. I swore, for my next new car, I’ll do it from day one of ownership.

I just did it today on one of my cars. The hood and front fenders bra was $250+tax (07 Mitsu Outlander).

If the car is clean and you look from close proximity you can see the line, but otherwise no. I had one previous patch removed and it did not damage the paint.

If you are in GTA, there is a place called 3M TrimLine Metrowest on Dixie and Drew. This is a place used by people on various car forums.

I was interested in a clear bra at one point, but I don't think it's worth it now.

I once looked at a car at a H Gregoire dealership that had a clear bra (a clear film that attaches to the hood edge). It must have been 4 years old and the bra was clearly visible. Over time, it had browned a little. I thought that a regular hood protect been taken off and here had been a discoloration of the paint.

So no matter how clear it is initially, I don't think it's always going to be clear.

Just put the steering wheel in the DOWN position and the drive feels much better - watz up with that??

It might damage the original paint if removed, and on top of that the paint that was not protected will have a different shade than the protected one (all that because of UVs, weather, salt blah blah)... you can see the bra on black cars more easily...

I have 10 years-old 3M stongard on my VW.  It is still clear.   Although, there are a bunch of nicks on the film from stones and stuff, the paint underneath is good.

I just had a product called ventureshield put on the TSX. Had the hood, fenders, head lights and mirrors done. Warrentied for life not to discolour. Very similar to the 3M stuff.
You really can't even see it on the car. Very nice finsh. $300.00 taxes in for me
