Employee pricing for sure better than 'haggling'?
« on: August 23, 2008, 12:12:34 pm »
We are able to take advantage "employee pricing" as a relative is an executive with GM Canada. (Our past two cars have been purchased this way). Sometime in 2009 we will purchase another vehicle.

I sometimes wonder how this pricing would compare with a traditional negotiation in terms of the bottom line...final price.

My belief is that with employee pricing the dealer makes no money....

You would be wrong. Sinced this type of promotion is undoubtedly at least partially if not mostly funded by the manufacturer.

The dealer does make money but not as much as he normally would from a straight citizen sale coming in off of the street. There is 2 plans, the A plan and the B plan which differ in what you pay or if the vehicle is already sitting on the lot or has to be ordered in. Either one can be a very good purchase for these people as my family has done it on and off  for many years. It can add up to be thousands of dollars of savings in the beginning but these folks must keep the vehocle at least 6 months in their name. If they were to sell them early the GM employee will be in trouble with the corporation and they will lose the buying privelage as well.  :)

 :iagree:

What I would watch out for would be a higher than normal admin fee, manditory rustproofing, manditory VIN etching, and the GM employee pricing processing fee required to take advantage of the deal.
Several GM dealers tried to add those fees when I bought my GP through a similar pricing plan. These fees added up to more than the discount offered.

But is GM Employee pricing in Canada better than haggling or even buying at MSRP in the US?

^^No way.

An HHR SS in USA is ~$24K (before haggling).  Over here?  $32K+.  No way they would drop it that much....
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Regardless, it is a heck of alot better than going through the process of haggling.
