Trading in Your US Vehicle to a Canadian dealer

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and had a question regarding US vehicles. Has anyone tried to trade their US vehicle in to a Canadian dealer? I know over the past few years the importing of US cars has been huge, I'm considering buying a US vehicle but I'm just curious if I will get anything for it when it"s 5-6 years old?

Been der dun dat & no problems. I traded a US saturn vue on a us Toyota Highlander at a Canadian GM dealer. I paid lowww for the Highlander & got the same trade in Value as they would have given for a canadian vehicle. The dealer said if the warranty is good on both sides of the border there is no concern over where the vehicle came from.

If both cars are equal the Canadian car will bring more money because the average buyer is less wary.

The other thing about US cars is that depending on which State it was originally shipped and sold out of the emissions equipment can be either California, which we have here in Canada, or Federal which is sold in many US States.  So certain repairs could get complicated by mechanics not familiar with Federal specs.

I know when I was looking at a used Vibe the local dealer wasn't shy about saying it was a car they imported from the US. Wasn't selling it cheap, either.

Most of the late model used cars on dealer's lots here are US imports now. If the dollar stays up and this situation continues I'd expect very little distinction between a  car that was US or CDN originally when it comes time to trade.

Most of the dealers here bring in US cars to sell, mostly from the auction in Boston.  The only item of note is that when they list them, they'll say 'mileage in miles; US car'.

A neighbor of mine does that as a hobby now, he was thinking of bringing up some 1 or 2 yr old MDXs.

If I was him I'd go with Infiniti or Lexus....no warranty on the Acura's
