It seems Honda is extremely confident about thier products.

The MSRPs for 2009 Fit, Civic and Accord are exactly the same as 2008, and they are asking the same interest rates as Nissan/Toyota/Mazda same catergory vehicles.

Do you think Honda can maintain their sales figuares at a 10% price premium over their same class competitors?

If the lemmings keep buying them, no reason for Honda to drop their prices.

Yes they can. Because they do build a great product. As long as the quality is there. Which it is. They won't loose sales. Smiley

Where did u get that 10% number from. Maybe all the other manufacturers   have reduce there product line by 10% in order to compete agaist Honda. Grin

B/C that is like saying because one Hifi is price more than the other Hifi. Then they must be charging a premuim. if you are to follow that rule, Which is just not the case. Thinker

I've never been a huge Honda fan but it's obvious that a lot of people are extremely loyal. Given that fact it's only logical for Honda to trade on their "premium" reputation by charging a premium price. In other words..."charge whatever the market will accept"

2009 Mazda6/Camry/Altima now all start at around $22,500, 2009 Accord starts at $25,000.
$2500 price difference roughly equals 10%.

2009 Mazda3/Corolla/Sentra around $15,000, 2009 Ciivc starts at $17,000.
$2000 price difference is actually more than 10%.  Shocked

But why is that consider a premium. Are you saying that all cars should be price the same. Like I said. B/C if one product that is price more than another product. That does not make it a premium. that's all I'm saying.  I don't get why or where this premium idea comes from. Grin

If 4 "almost" equal products provide you with "almost" same features and beneifts, 3 of them cost $XX,XXX amount of dollars and the 4th one 10% more.
And the 10% extra cannot be justified by any extra value, then it is a pure extra charge, which "may" = the definition of the "premium" you mention.

I can justify why a 2009 VW Jetta costs more than a 2009 Mazda3/Corolla/Sentra, but fail to see how a Civic should be more than the 3 Japanese brands.
Do the Fit/Civic/Accord have lower interest rates, provide more equipment than other brands? Niether.

Does anyone buy a base model?
Does any dealerships have base model cars on their lots?

Yes lots of people do. Including me. I brought a base Civic. They are a lot of Honda Fit bases on the road.  Toyota sell lot of Yaris bases. So do Hyundai with the Accent. So yes you would be suprised people do still buy them.  Smiley

I bought one by chance. Base 2007 Camry 4-cyl with no options. As my signature says, it gives me what I need.

Cars these days are very well equipped across most manufacturers' lineups.
