Aftermarket modification do not void warranty.  The manufacturer would have to prove that the aftermarket component was the cause of the failure.  Therefore, if you had springs, and you motor blew, the manufacturer would have a hard time denying warranty work because of springs...Even if a suspension component failed, they'd have to prove it was the fault of the spring..

That being said, some people still prefer to hold off on mods until after the car has finished the warranty...especially if the car is expected to make frequent trips to the dealer...

I got my car from Oakville VW.  I live 7 minutes away from there.  Talk to Matt he is a really good guy.

About the springs, Canadians did not get the 1" drop for 2008.  Only the US did I think?
Then there are dealers who put the mods on before you come to pick up the new car  :)

Indeed... and if the rumours are true, Georgetown VW might just be one of those dealers.

RSX, where'd you get your car?  A friend of mine has been looking for one just like it.

Thanks for the nice words.  Makes me feel great about my choice.  I've loved cars from day one and choosing a new one is always very hard for me.  I have no regrets on the GTI.  It drives great, is quick enough and has all the lux stuff I need.

It is a 4door 6spd manual with roof, 18's and sirius radio.  I think I'll be putting some new springs to lower it buy about 1".  I feel the ride for Canadian GTI's is a little high.  The USA gets a lower ride.  Also it has the FSI engine in it which is OK for me since I usually replace my car at the enf of my lease ( but the GTImy change that)

I don't think Canada got the 1" drop, only the USA >:(

I thought the 08s are 1" lower... strange... if you're looking for ~1" of drop... try the Eibach Pro springs, but if your ride is already an inch lower than the 07s then I believe those springs wont do anything for ya... as u have them already...

Congrats on the purchase once again!

I bought my GTI from georgetown for that reason. That "rumour" has been current since 2000 at least.
H2sport workshop and office is at the back of Georgetown VW and by all accounts they will work together.  H2sport is an APR dealer amongst other things as that would be my chip of choice for sure ( I had APR in my A4)
If Georgetown have to reflash the ECU 'cos of a VW mandate, H2sport can fix that in moments  ;)

IIRC the APR ECU upgrade sticks with the car, and even if a dealer reflashes the ECU, you can go to any authorized APR dealer and all they need is your VIN# to fix it...
There's a few dealerships that are mod-friendly, idk if it'll be okay to post them here... they're listed on the 'tex anyways..

Indeed but it is convenient to get the APR mods back without having to make another trip  ;)

Well I've had my car for about five months now and am still very happy with the purchase.

Pros
1.  Still love the styling.
2.  Handles great, even with my 16 snow tires.
3.  Great interior and hot heated seats
4.  Xenon lights.  1st time I've had a car with these.  Will never go back
5.  Pretty fuel efficient when not running the turbo to hard
6.  Hatchback is very practical and can fit a lot of junk
7.  Candy white!!!!!!
8.  Nice sound when you rev it.
9.  So far pretty reliable.  No warranty issues yet

Cons
1.  When really cold has some squeaks
2.  Always want to drive really fast!!!
3.  Candy white--> hard to keep clean

Thats all I can think of.

It is ok.   I am glad I bought the DSG but I am not sure I'd buy one again unless there were changes to it .
1)  on the shift lever.  IMHO should be BACK for up and FORWARD for down ( on a MT car the 1->2 3->4 5->6 UPSHIFTS are all a pull back)
2) The paddles should be on the steering column and bigger not on the wheel
3) the sport mode on the transmission should be a mode of the manual setting not of the auto setting.

pro
I agree with rsxca about most things... except the
8.  Nice sound when you rev it.   There is a "noise pipe" in the engine bay that, on purpose, transmits sound to the passenger compartment. One of the VW fora has an article as to how to get rid of it and I'll be doing that.
cons:
The Candy White looks very white until....... you see it up against fresh snow.
I hate the way the wipers stay hidden under the hood. I know they can be parked up in the air but why not just have them visible anyway.
I strongly dislike the Red rear indicators, using the HIDS as DRLS rather than the fogs and I don't like those side markers on the mirrors... I find that distracting.
The blue lighting for the radio at night... no contrast between the display and the background.
I'd would buy a photochromic inside mirror if it was an option... got used to them on Audi and BMW. Could probably get an aftermarket one but that requires fiddling with wiring.

little bugs:
when you wash the windscreen, that pull back action of the lever turns the rear wiper off. The GTI, like all hatches NEEDS that rear wiper.
If you turn off defrost mode by pressing AUTO it leaves the A/C on.

mrs tpl likes it... she hated the BMW

I'd buy another Golf  its good points far outweigh the bugs.
