HELP! The Ford and GM dealers dont know.
With my camper and passengers, water, tiedowns, extra batts, and full tank of fuel I figure a 2008 F-350 crew long box diesel single rear wheel needs to be able to handle about 4100 lbs over its curb weight. This works out (but barely) since the truck has a GVWR of 11400 lbs - CURB WT of 7300 lbs whhereich leaves a Gross Payload of 4100 lbs for everything except the bare truck.
ENTER THE TIRE PLACARD!!!
On the door jamb ( or pillar ) there is sticker (placard) that has tire pressures, number of passengers and a warning as follows:
THE COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCUPANTS AND CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED 3240 lbs.
Now this is a long ways from 4100 lbs. Even if you exclude 200 lbs of fuel it is still a long way from 3900 lbs payload. Where does this descrepancy come from? Does it mean the manufacturers are not putting tires capable of reaching the GVWR on the vehicles?
HELP I need to buy a truck and I am not keen on a dually, but if I go by the TIRE PLACARD it seems I must get one.
