Found this on NASIOC:

Looks like some excellent improvements, as long as pricing remains similar.  Especially in the US.

WRX gets improved suspension and 41 more horsepower, while staying the same price?  Nice!

Clearly feeling the heat from the Ralliart and quitting resting on their laurels.  Yay for competition.

Subaru will need to do something to the STI or there is no point. A $1000 mod will easily make +300 HP on the WRX.

It's got the e-Diff, like the EVO has the active yaw control that the Ralliart lacks.  These electronics do set aside the top-shelf model.  (Unfortunately, most reviewers say that the e-Diff doesn't actually do much in practice, whereas AYC really does help).

Also, even setting aside the e-Diff, I think that the STI still has a far more advanced chassis.  Advanced enough to make it worth the extra money?  Not for me.  But it's not like you can chip a WRX and have an STI.

No, it takes ECU, Exhaust, and Tires for $3500.

Been there…done that.

The STI has the same suspension as the WRX and doesn't have any additional chassis stiffening?  I'm surprised.

I thought hard about aftermarket suspension options and even lowering but after driving STi’s and STi owners driving my WRX we struggled to notice any real difference on public road conditions. Perhaps on smooth test track conditions there would be a measurable difference but for 99.9% of the buying public I highly doubt it.

Is it really that different, I mean would a far more advanced chassis be worth their while financially, just on one model?

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

agreed.   the exterior styling needs some tweaking too.  those rear silver tail light gots to go.   it's not a bad looking car but i have real issues with manufacturers that rip off other maker's designs so blatantly.  check out the euro 5 door hatch 1 series.

What about the brakes on the STI.
Brembo don't come cheap and I'm assuming they perform better then the ones on the WRX.

At least Subaru removed the silly 4A/T transmission as an option on the WRX.

You might be surprised how many cars have Brembo brakes. They make their bread and butter from lower ended stuff. My car has brembo brakes as we all found out with the master cylinder recall. Just no brembo on the calipers.

I find it strange that they offer both the WRX and the WRX265 in Canada. In the US they are calling the 224 hp impreza the gt-s and it will be only available in automatic. Plus they are expected to be the same price Huh

I guess I should be glad that I got mine from the US and saved some money. If I had paid full Canadian prices and found out that for 3K more I could have had 40 more HP and a better suspension I would have been pretty pissed.

If I went to a stage 2 set up I would get about 265 - 280+ HP. I think that's what snowman has.
Maybe I should wait a bit and try to pick up a used 09 turbo from somebody upgrading.

Does anyone know what type of turbo is going to be in the 09 WRX265?

I'd still be pissed at Subaru making this significant change just 1yr in.  Could've bought an '09 down there as well.  Sorry to rub salt in the wound.

I applaud Subaru for paying attention to the consumer and making the adjustment in such a short period of time.

I doubt it has as much to do with paying attention to the customer as it does to reacting to the threats from Mitsubishi.  Wink

A quality Stage 2 kit and a skilled tuner can easily get you 300 HP.
