Well I and now the (proud?) owner of a Ford Tempo coupe - of 1988-1991 or so vintage. Its a 5spd manual and cost me all of $50. Had been sitting for a year but popping in a battery from my Seven it fired right up - did manage to light some weeds on fire behind it. All new brakes but high miles and some dog hair inside. Not sure what the heck I'll do with it - maybe flip it for a small profit or just drive it as a beater. Interestingly I learned to drive stick on my parent's 1988 Ford Tempo L two door - heck I took my wife on our first date in that car too. Some memory lane a little bit. Its actually somewhat fun to drive with the 5spd - more so than I remember. Enjoy some pictures of this beauty.

Good find.

Once you get used to it, the location of the wiper controls and fan controls(?) (to the left & right of instrument cluster) are rather intuitive.

The seats showed more wear & tear than the car's outside. More PARKED than driven?

Pass a safety?  If so, $50 is AMAZING.

If those seats could talk...... Kiss

With a car like that, driving takes on more fun - don't worry about door-dings in parking lots, somebody cuts you off you can hit them!

Will this car pass safety?

Once I replace the side light I suspect it will pass a safety - new brakes and steering, shocks feel good. Tires are decent. It could very well be the highest mileage Tempo ever - 363k kms on it. Apparently was a highway commuter. Body has some rust on the driver's side but not too bad.

That beats my 322k.

What condition is the pipe from the exhaust to the EGR valve?  That sucker rotted badly on my Topaz.  Steel'y to the rescue (steel/epoxy putty)!

Hmmm ... the exhaust was slightly noisy - probably the same issue as yours.

Brings back good memories of a buddies Tempo and many trips to various Saskatoon bars in university. As he was the only one with a 4 person car it was the drive of choice when a bunch of us went out together. Other than the ignition switch/steering column giving up on him it never gave much trouble.

If the seats really bother you the pick-a-part opposite the airport will sell you two for $50.00, I'm sure they have lots of Tempos. Probably have that side light as well.

I plan to hit the junkyard tomorrow - oddly enough this car came with all the maintaince receipts, owner's manual, warranty card, etc. Seems I'm the third owner and the second barely drove (couldn't drive stick) - its also an 1988 model like I thought. In the engine compartment there are little notes written everywhere with when the fuel pump or shocks, etc were replaced. Interesting.

That tempo needs a nickname as all the tempo's I've ever known had one.

- The Tempo of Doom
- The Temp
- Urban Camoflauge.

My Grandma has a '93 Tempo GL, 4 door, with 14,000 km on it.  Do you think I should keep it in the family?   Grin

Urban Camoflauge.

I tried to follow my friend's Tempo once in the city. His was that reddish color that Ford liked at the time. Lost him after a couple blocks, worst car to follow, EVER. Saskatoon has a lot of older cars, I think at one point I had three Tempos in front of me, and all in that damn maroon color.
