Hey guys, the results from the challenge is very interesting. I drive a 2007 honda civic ex automatic. My experience is quite different. I try to use gentle acceleration (the transmission changes gear near 2500rpm), and I try to obey the speed limit. However, I find that I can only get around 450kms before my fuel light comes on.  Comparing to your findings "The Honda Civic, the outright winner last time around, placed second this time. Its warning light turned on at 821 km (eight clicks before the Corolla's), and all went dark after another 126 kilometres. " The difference is huge! 450km vs 821km. The tester civic traveled nearly twice as far as mine did!  Is there an update on the 2008 civic for this to be possible? Or should I be worried that my civic is a lemon? Are there any other civic owners want to share their real life fuel consumption on this generation of civic?  |

You only get 450? in what city driving? Heck I've seen 450 in much less fuel efficient cars on the same amount of litres. |

In mixed driving I always get over 600kms on my 2001 Civic DX-G auto with the light having just come on. Anything going on with worn wheel bearings, parking brake sticking, poor alignment etc which is affecting your milleage? |

I routinely go 800km on the highway before the low fuel warning light comes on. If I fuel up right away, it is ALWAYS 42L if I cram in as much as possible.
Given that I have 8L left and have just averaged 5.25L/100km, then I should be able to go another 152km until 50L is consumed. That would take me to 952km. This is very attainable and realistic mileage for the Corolla. On my last trip to the mountains and back I consumed 5.1L/100km.
Were I able to drive mostly on 90 posted highways (instead of 110 like the highway to Jasper) I think it quite feasible to break into the 4's (I do have a half tank between Canmore AB and Vernon BC at 4.8 ) and I could see going 1000km before dying.

There are flaws in every test but the flaws in this 50 liter challenge are so large they render the results completely inaccurate. Toyota now uses these flawed results in their advertising as winner of the "50 litre challenge".

I think what you would have to do , to make everyone happy ( if that is possible  ) is to drain the cars gas tanks, and re fuel with one the tanks they use in nascar , where the volume is know |

I propose drain all the tanks and then make it a 1L challenge first car to burn out the fuel pump loses. |
