Without a link to the specific offer listing all the details there is little to say; mileage, fees, what have you ...  ???

The ad is on Toronto Sun.

Everything else looks not uncommon.

20,000 km per year
exclude freight, admin fee, tax

Freight, PDI  & admin fee could add to $1800, make the 24 monthly jump an extra $75 per.

Isn't that still a lot of money to pay for a boat anchor?

That's one helluva deal...  I wonder if it's one of those balloon payment deals, where at the end of the 24 months you still owe a big chunk of money...?

Its overpriced even at $160 a month!  Ever sat in one?  The first word that comes to mind is CHEAP.  Hard, low quality seat fabric and a cluster that looks like it was stolen from an '87 Dodge Shadow.   You get what you pay fron IMO.

Obviously you no think so.

I think the actual lease price will be close $300/mth when addin' the fees & taxes.

Agree!  This is just a gimmick to get more garbage off the inventory.  After 2 years, you will have paid nearly $7K and that's not mentioning the FULL insurance coverage they will make you buy for the whole lease period.  That's a lot of depreciation you've paid for if you decide to just hand it back in at the end.  There's no obligation to pay anyting at the end of a lease except for repairing any abnormal wear and tear.  The residual will be set at the time of signing.  I doubt many people will justify paying that at the end.  If you really need a new car badly and can't afford to buy a better one or can't qualify for a bank loan to buy a car, then this might be your only option.  Those who can least afford it, are the ones that get caught up in this "no win" situation.  It's one heckuva BAD deal, but for some, it's the only deal that's available to them.
But my question still stands .................... Will this thing still make for a good boat anchor?

Only if the journey include a site visit to see the Titanic. They will eventually make a cheap beater vehicle in about ... 5 years?

Hard plastic-shmastic - what a bunch of crap! It's no worth than in any Toyota or even Bimmer.
Journey is a nice car, I sat in one a few days ago. Well built, lot's of storage space, the bins under front seats are really cool, decent mileage (according to a friend of mine who bought one). For $160 a month with 0 down it's a steal! You can't even lease a Civic for that money.

A slight difference of opinion?  It's a "steal" or it's a POS.  Which is it?
BTW, it's NOT just 160 a month (see the other posts).  That's just where it starts until the lease guy adds all the other stuff in.  And the Civic will hold way more residual when the deal is done.  Poor comparison.

What are the alternative vehicles in this price range ($19,995 to $29,995) that will seat 7 (in proper seats not idiotic temporary seating) and tow 3500lbs? The Rav4 four cylinder starts at $27k and heads north pretty quickly with options. The 3.5L SXT FWD we looked at was $28K and included Bluetooth, cruise, climate control, power & heated seats, ESP and a brazillion airbags, lots of very nifty storage cubbies etc etc.

It was more vehicle than we needed, but we both liked it very much. I really didn't see much difference in interior materials than what Toyota has been doing lately, and dynamically it was pretty nimble and relatively quiet. Price wise, it was within spitting distance of its American version as opposed to the reaming pretty much all of the other manufacturers subject you to.
