I would much prefer a vehicle built in Canada. At least I will try to support my fellow Canadian workers which many folks do not. Someday when they aren't buying your products and you are unemployed maybe you can figure out why?  :(

So Barrie...you'd buy a Toyota or Honda then?  Cause they're made in Canada....
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

The only assembly plant outside of Japan to manufacture Lexus vehicles is in Canada...  since Lexus/Toyota make some of the most solid vehicles on the market, I'm going to go ahead and say Canada is making the best vehicles in the world.  ;)

From a brand perspective, I think the German automakers are at the top, followed by the Japanese.  BMW, Porsche, Audi, Honda, Subaru, and Lexus are imo the best carmakers in the world...

So, what do you drive now?  You've been able to buy a "built in Canada" car for many, many years now.  Have you?
Let's see, your "Caddy".  Where's it built?  Canada?  NOPE!
Your GMC truck?  Probably not.  I'll bet it was built in Flint Michigan.
Your dream car ................. Turbo Rolls.  Hmmmm.  Where's that built?  I think it'll have to cross a lot of water to get here and I'm not talking about our Great Lakes, either.
How hard have you "tried" to support your fellow Canadians.  Yeah, I'll buy a car manufactured by Canadians IF there is one I'd want and IF it was economically feasible to buy it.  Why should I buy a car on the sole reason that it's built in Canada if I don't want it, like it or need it?  To do so is a terribly romantic concept and I'm sure it would make any patriot feel warm and cuddly all over, but let's get real.  The world doesn't spin like that.

I would much rather own a 335 than an IS350, and a 5-series over an ES...  though I admit, the Lexus LS are brilliant and probably the best in their class.   I also love the IS250's looks and new price.  :)

Which is why I said "best" needs to be explained.  "Best" for some is of the highest quality.  Other's it's driving "feel". And other's it's "design".  Best is different for different people.....

Of course the 5 Series doesn't compete with the ES.  It has always competed against the GS.

Barrie used to work for GM so that trumps everyone and anything they've ever done for the Canadian working stiff.... ::)

My Mexican Jetta is pretty damn awesome, all things considered.  Shame there's no option to vote "Mexico"...

In all seriousness, and with all due respect to the original poster, this question is stupid.  It depends on what you're looking for, and even if you were more specific, all you'd elicit is partisan bickering.

What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -- John F. Kennedy, addressing Canadian Parliament.

Now you mention VWs.   My 1987 Golf was built in the USA. My 1995 Golf was built in Mexico and I think that at least some parts of my 2008 Golf were made in Mexico or Brazil but the car was assembled in Germany.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

So, does that mean he'll take the blame for ALL GM workers.  I've got a basket full of $100.00 deductibles from all those times my 2 Vettes went in the shop?  Oh, and did I mention my Fiero and GTO Judge?  Let's see, the Vettes alone would add up to about $2000.00.  I accept personal cheque, Paypal.

Did yours develop a peculiar smell?  You know, like when some Mexican worker, having had one cerveza too many slipped a dead rat in between 2 panels before welding?

I agree - that's why I recommend Toyotas.

I didn't get that kind of smell.  I guess the dealer found it and cleaned it up during their PDI process.  :)

Why not recommend Hondas too?   My Civic was built in Alliston, Ontario.

My "best" and your is obviously different, as I would totally reverse that comment......if "best" is reliability, you win; if "driving dynamics", you lose.  ;)

As already stated, the original poll is not answerable, and all this thread becomes is a place for partisans to praise or bash. Or misunderstand the question totally, as some have done. No names mentioned.  ::) ::)
