Honda/Acura B1 service
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:12:06 pm »
Oil + Filter
Rotate Tires
"Service brakes"
Inspect a bunch of crap, which they won't do.

$190.

Ridiculous much? Its just oil and tires.
Wally's can do it for $40...any risk there? :)
Everything in life is relative.

I'm already taking mine to an independent mechanic.  The Acura shop rates are insane.

It's $230 here at Destination Honda.  =)

I'd just get the oil/filtre changed at the dealer, and do the brake service along with the inspections and tire rotation at Midas for $50.

It is more than just an oil change. I believe the cost is coming from the "service front/rear brakes" part of the job.  I think this is where they clean them up and lube the sliders so they don't stick. I notice more manufactures are doing this now. You can probably skip it but if you have have a seized caliper, its your money not theirs that will be fixing it.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

^^^^How so.....would a seized caliper be "normal wear"?  I don't think so...

Its not normal wear but if you don't do the prescribed preventative maintenance it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Just like if you don't ever change your oil and something happens to the engine (that was related to the oil) the dealer won't cover the damages.

I'm sure there is some person up in the ivory office thinking of all kind of new things people will have to do.

Once you get it done elsewhere, how do you get the maintenance minder to reset?

why worry about the warranty, in 3 years , 60,000 km your brakes should be fine anyway,

Tell that to all the P5 owners that had this problem. My rears had it happen at only 24K. For the record, my fronts lasted until 150K.

There are tons of newer cars out there with seized calipers and the owners don't even know it - especially rears. It is a regular item on the trade-in reconditioning list. Lubing caliper sliders should be considered as normal as changing the oil.

But if you don't do the prescribed preventative maintenance it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

They have a VERY difficult time trying to do that on a car covered by warranty.

Lube slider pins when you swap your winters on and off spring and fall.  Takes only a few minutes.

What do you use to lube your sliders?   I'm thinking of attempting my own brake job.
