There just giving you a discount on a gun, in Texas they give you an actually gun.

In Texas if you open a new bank account you get a new gun.

Whats next: Oh you want to supper size your Big Mac combo, here is your free gun.
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

Isn't there a town in Texas where it is illegal to not carry a gun? We have a lot in common with our friends and neighbors to the south. Our views on gun laws are not one of them though (as a generalization).

Please don't tell me you are citing a Michael Moore movie for those "facts."

It's just money towards the purchase of fuel or a gun.

It's just a way to weed through the advertisements and get to their target demographic.

Who cares what people spend their money on as long as it's legal?

Because the "you're citing Michael Moore and he's wrong" argument is so much better...   ::)  If you have reason to believe Moore's points are presented inaccurately, then show us evidence.  But this "Please don't tell me..." is faultier logic than the thing you're arguing against in the first place...

No need to get your panties in a bunch.  :P

What do you think I'm arguing against anyway? That a film maker that contends that Canadians don't lock their doors might not be a credible source of information?  ;)

I often did not lock my door during the day.  My wife insists on it now that we live together but before then it was not of much concern to me.

I found this very illuminating regarding the accuracies of Moore's points:

http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html

Although I have found Moore's films highly entertaining and upon first watching have felt the same, "I had no idea ..." as most viewers, the skill with which he has been able to deceive his audience is truly breathtaking. When watched as a fan, his films push all the right buttons and seem incredible in their ability to project unseen truths. When viewed as a skeptic, however, the ugly reality of their deceptions become all too obvious.

Not saying All of what Moore shows is fact, but I find irony in that you use a web site to show his errors.

As for the promotion, I'd take the gun, not the $250 in gas.  With the gun, I'd be able to procure a great deal more than $250 worth of gas...
No place I'd rather be...

Perhaps if you read the site ...

I read a bunch of it, and regardless of accuracy (?) anyone sticking up for Heston and his merry band of gun nuts is a bigger nut than Moore anyday.

Some of the points are valid, like the 165 Canadian gun deaths are indeed a raw number, not a rate per population.  However, that is easy math to do, and the rate in Canada is much lower than the US.

This is mumbo-jumbo...

http://www.hardylaw.net/canada.html

The fact is that we have worked, through social programming, to try to avoid the massive urban waste zomes that generate the majority of the US gun crime.  He's right that it's not the problem of the suburbs.  But, it US social policy that has created this situation. Simply saying "can't compare the US to Canada" is a cop-out.

Moore is not the only one manipulating the facts, and I stand by my point that referencing a biased source to offset another biased source is poor...

I take it you don't agree with this statement then:

Quote
The point is not that Bowling is biased. No, the point is that Bowling is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive.

No matter. I have no intention of debating the quality of the sources. What is abundantly clear from that site is that Heston was the victim of a pretty vicious hatchet job by Moore. Before I had seen Moore's movie I knew Charlton Heston as an actor and had no particular feelings one way or another. After seeing Moore's film I felt Heston was a callous, racist, gun nut. I suspect many, many others had the same experience. Now that I see that editing of speeches and outright lies were the source of those feelings I can't help but feel betrayed by the guy that purports to be telling us the truth.

It's business.  Know your market and customers.  It's a different culture down there.   No need to get all worked up about it.
