My old B2000 does not have very comfy seats on long trips...

Geez, my climbing partner had a mid 90's Ford Ranger and it was a torture chamber for the 3.5 hr drive to Jasper.  Then, the v-6 drank gas like a monster v-8!  The final drive ratio was so steep that the little truck actually got better mileage around town than on the highway.  Even in fifth gear, the six was howling at just 100km/h.
No place I'd rather be...

The Saab seats are an orthapaedic design with the whole WHIPS system. They're also heated and cooled. I have made numerous trips to Atlantic Canada and back and have never been tired or uncomfortable. The Acura seats aren't too bad. The Infiniti seats are very comfortable with numerous adjustments. I've made numerous trips to California and back in that car. Again, never uncomfortable or tired.

The V70 seats are the best I have sat in for long trips, bar none. Second place goes to the Saab 9-5.
My biggest beef with most japanese seats (looking at you Subaru!) are the lack of seat bottom length. Legs are unsupported and that sucks after a couple of hours.

Zoo just be going to the 700R4 tranny you won,t need to change the gears as it will be lowered which will give you improved milage by that change itself. They are not all that tough for racing but will give superb milage on long trips.  :)

The S40's front seats are truly amazing... Toronto-Detroit-Buffalo-Toronto one day ~13hrs of driving no problem whatsoever. The back seats are a pain though, forget about sleeping in the back.

The Wab's got less impressive front seats but way better back seats. Overall it's comfier.

Versa S. No power adjustments, no hydro-pneumatic computer-controlled side bolsters and lumbar supports and no bun-warmers. Just fore-and-aft and recline, but man, those seats are great. All-day drives are no problem at all

Back-seat passengers never fail to comment on how comfortable and roomy it is back there. With the driver's seat adjusted for me (5' 11") there's enough room to stretch out your legs. Really amazing.

Seems like Volvo's reputation is anecdotally true. :)

I drove out to London and back last week, the VW seats felt fine for the drive.  I didn't experience any discomfort.

Take one out for a spin and see for yourself  :)  They really are brilliant.

The new V70's  seats are not even close to my V70R thrones. I hope this is not a trend with Volvo.

I never get taken seriously at any vaguely upscale dealership. :(

Managed to test drive an S40 T5.

The rumors of good Volvo seats are true. :)

The T5 engine is also very nice, pulls neatly even in 5th gear, and sounds great. Interior wasn't bad, but I feel the materials were slightly below that of the TSX. More rattle-y though. :( The center LCD screen is a real letdown given the genius of the rest of the center console. :(

Glad you got a test-drive.  Anyone driving a TSX should have no trouble getting seat time in an S40, which certainly is no more upscale.

Did you test-drive the auto or the manual?

Anyway, I agree about the interior.  It's very Ikea-like, which is to say that it's charming and Swedish but not particularly luxurious.  It's MUCH better in light colors than dark, though.

By the way, I think that the C30 offers far better value than the S40 (at least with US pricing), and better looks.  Tests I've read suggest it offers significantly more body rigidity too, while still offering a lot of utility if you don't demand four doors.

It was the 5sp slushbox.

I don't much like the C30 looks...the S40 on the other hand I really do like. Its well proportioned, classy, and dare I say youthful.

TSX seats didn't feel quite as good as they used to this morning. :P

The leather upgraded seats in the Impala are very comfy IMO.  I don't know about the cloth ones.  The best seats I ever sat in were a Jeep Cherokee with leather and a Buick Lucerne with leather.
