Comfy seats
« on: May 17, 2008, 09:25:44 pm »
How comfy are your car seats? :)

I have driven the TSX for 8 hours with only 1 short break with no troubles...lumbar support set to max. Neck area needed support so I had to buy a neck cushion from PMall.

Parents rental Impala has no back support to speak of.

GF's Civic is also pretty bad...she bought a cushion thing.
Everything in life is relative.

The Foresters aren't bad, the Corollas are pretty comfy, though I have spent no longer than 5 hours in them, that stretch proved excellent.  The Mercedes' were awesome, good for loooong days.  Our old 1988 Mazda 626 had so-so seats, lacking a long enough seat cushion.

The 911's seats were easily the best of any car we've had.  Firm and supportive in the right places, adjustable in a zillion ways, the only flaw was the leather was a touch stiff and the AC was tepid, meaning hot black leather stayed hot for far too long.  However, the fuel tank needed refilling long before your butt needed a rest...
No place I'd rather be...

The Fleetwood seats are extremly good for long distances as well as I have done it many times in my different Caddies over the years. I do agree with the STS being great as well.  :)

2007 Toyota Camry LE
Haven't driven more than 5 hours on the trot. Could use lumbar support. Still, without it, if properly adjusted (I use different settings for regular city or long highway travel), quite comfortable. No complaints from passengers either.

Element -   Is there actual padding in the seats?
Millie -  MSRP of $40K+ should have better seats. Too flat, too easy to slide around.
CX-7 -  Way better than the Millie.
E30 OEM Recarro -   Superb fit, keeps the bottom in the bucket at all times comfortably.
Aftermarket racing bucket:    Tailor made comfort, well worth the cost.

The seats in the Volvo V70R are the best I have ever experienced. Heated, not too soft and not too hard, good lumbar adjustment, great headrest with WHIPS protection, and proper bolstering for when one wants to push the limits. If I trade this car in it may be minus the seats. The biggest downside to these seats is how thick they are and how it eats into the rear seat room. These suckas are thick!

The seats in the Dakota are a mixed bag. Overall they are surprising comfy without being too soft and they have great lumbar support. The downside is the one piece design. Anyone over 5' 10" has no whiplash protection at all circa 1970's. I can't believe Dodge was installing these into the Gen III Dakota Quad Cabs up until 2004. :o On my list is to find some seats out of a Club cab. For whatever reason the seats were much taller. I think Dodge did it to improve outward visibility. Either way they should feel shame.

Jetta's are 90% perfect, but there's something odd about the contour of the very bottom of the backrest.

Legacy's were downright painful for me, but my wife loved them.

Neither my wife nor I are that thrilled with the Tacoma's seats.

The best I've experienced were the Lexus IS250 (wraps around you oh-so-nicely, though the seat bottom could have been firmer), the Volvo S40 (absolutely brilliantly comfortable, though lacking in side bolstering) and the Mercedes C300 (so perfect that I never once thought about them, and probably never would have thought about them if I spent 12 hours nonstop in them).

The worst I've experienced was the back of a Nissan Frontier double cab.  Felt like one inch of soft foam pulled tight over a cardboard box.  And that's both the seat bottom and the backrest.

Having a bad back, I am rather picky about my seats.  So here goes:

The Sienna, base CE seats are great.  Have done long drives without any issues.  Not a lot of extra adjustments but they are not needed.

The Pathy drivers seat is also very good.  But the passenger seat is awful.

The Mystique seats where also very good.  Lots of support and not tiring on long drives.

Worst would have to be Ford bench seats in the F250's I have driven (but never owned) over the years.  I firmly believe that bouncing around on logging roads on those seats has contributed to my back problem.  Getting an Obus back rest really helped with those.  Wore out 2 of them    :P

2002 Sienna CE had pretty crappy seats. This was my chief complaint with the vehicle other than the really wide turning circle.

2001 Civic DX-G has awesome seats. Nice and firm and still comfy after 7-8 hours in the saddle.

1969 Chevelle seats still pretty comfy. I have driven to Ottawa with it in the past and the car is very nice on the highway for long stretches. This was with a different cog in the rear end. Now I would want to switch to a 700R or other trannie with an overdrive gear.

2007 Yaris LE hatch seems to have pretty comfy seats. I have not taken the car for extended drives just yet.

Volvo seats rule.

:iagree:  Volvos may be expensive, less than reliable, and uninspiring to drive, but they sure do take care of the people inside of them (and not just in crashes).

The Volvo seat department has always been strong. They were the best part of the 145 wagon I grew up with, good enough I transplanted a set (with added bolsters) from a parts 145 to my Datsun 510.

Just lately I had a friend on a hatchback testdrive spree go on and on about how great the seats were in the Volvo C30. Swore they were the best he'd ever experienced.

My old B2000 does not have very comfy seats on long trips, I might go on a pic N part shopping spree at some point, it's a common upgrade for these trucks.

Best seats I've ever had were in the 86 and  the '93 MB 300E's I had. They felt almost a little too firm when you first sat down but on long drives you soon came to realize just how great they were. My SRX is the first vehicle I've had since then that the seats are as good.

The worst seats I've had were probably my '98 Jeep GC...very soft but very little support. They were fine around town but on a longer trip... :'(
My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

My bride loves her seats in the Mini as the seat bottom is short...and she has pretty short legs.

I'm OK in them for short distances as they offer a lot of lateral support (something she rarely tests  ;D)...but I can't sit in them for longer than an hour.

It certaintly points out to me the importance of having a long test drive...
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

Love the seats in both Volvo's S60 and Xc70. Front seats in the Tucson are pretty good as well.
