Well, our last car deal was a failure, but this one came out great!

Our latest addition to the family: a 2002 Protege 5!  Grin Along with our TSX...the Odyssey is the King and gets to sleep in the garage.

You know you did a really crappy job of covering up those plates, right? Smiley

Anyways, nice looking P5. Is it primarily yours? What's the scoop?

Nice!  Thumbs up  Thumbs up

I'm really curious to hear your driving impressions of the P5 compared to the TSX.

Are they manual or auto?

Thumbs up

I use to have one of these (don't worry, mine was silver) and loved it. Put 150,000kms of fun driving on it. Enjoy.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I now realize I did a crappy job with the plates. haha oops.  Embarrassed

The car is primarily driven by me (I will be driving it to work & school), but it is still shared within the family, which is why its auto. My parents want to save wear and tear on the TSX.

Driving impressions? This car is SOLID at highway speeds. Wow. I am amazed. Its running on brand new V speed rated Hankooks, and the steering is tight, 120+ no problem. Ride is a bit stiff, but so is the Acura's. Obviously the TSX is much more refined, however, I'd say they handle about the same, with size being the P5's advantage, and weight being the TSX's disadvantage. The P5 could use more tire grip, however.

And the P5 is very low, which contributes to its tight handling. I still have to get used to sitting so low.

The P5 is dirty because it was driven in the rain all day today. Forgive me.  Smiley

Thanks! Its getting some rust on the rear hatch fixed this week (a common problem), and some 35% tint done next week.

I found some cheap aftermarket OEM look alike wheels for it for under $500 new, as the ones now are stripping. Not sure about these yet...

Congrats on the new ride.   When showing off a car it is best to wash and wax it first.  Smiley

Very nice P5 Smiley

I really like that car and still prefer it to the current 3 Wagon. I have a friend in Ottawa that is still enjoying his with many kms on it.

Pretty nice fleet there! Cheesy

Very neat and sneaky job for posting the pics after buying, understandable after the calls to burn you for being a witch.

Nice looking car, 35% tint would enhance it looks amazingly.  Thumbs up

Whats your nick going to be now? Hozda, Monda ?

Thanks again!

I am no witch...or am I?!  ROFL

Yes, it will be washed/waxed next week, after the rust spot is fixed. Here are the details on the vehicle:

1 owner, <70k, all service records, serviced at the Mazda dealer we bought it from. Price paid was $9500 including taxes. The premium wasn't too big between the P5 and the Sedan...it was rare to find one with this low kms for either model. Is the P5 long enough to be a wagon? I consider it a hatchback... Huh

I wish the 2.0L engine was as smooth as the Honda engines. Oh well, it DOES have TORQUE... Grin

$9500 is a steal for a P5 by our standards.  I've yet to see one for less than about $13 000 out West, but I guess their tendency for rust hurts resale in the more wintery climates.  Wink  Beautiful machine, I've never had the chance to drive one, but everyone I know who has just loves them.  One of my coworkers who now drives a MINI compares the P5 favourably, so I've no doubt it's a fun car.

nice car, I had a 2002 Protege5. I have seen many of them thought with rust spots around the wheel wells and back trunk. Mazda says this was a problem with 2002 and 2003, keep an eye out!
