Hatches are brilliantly cool.

Yes.   Now is a SUV really just a really big hatchback.... A Texan went into a Ford dealer to buy a Focus 5 door , said  "Supersize me" and came out in an Expedition?    :o
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Congrats of the purchase.

My brother has one of these, about 2 years old.  Great mileage and very decent seat room front and back.  The only drawback is the hatch is pretty small with the seats up and there's no 50/50 split rear seat unless you go for the RS model.  But other than that, the cars great.

These are legitimate drawbacks to the vehicle.

A split rear seat should be part of the LE Convenience package. While the luggage area is not all that large with the rear seats up I am able to put a week's or more worth of groceries back there without any issues.

While the car is almost perfect to me the following would be worthwhile improvements for Toyota to implement later in this generation or for the next Yaris.

1. Either a taller 4'th gear on the auto or a 5 speed auto with a taller top gear to get the revs down a bit. 100 km/hr is fine. 120 kn/hr is a bit buzzier than I would like.

2. Add the side air bags and curtain air bags to the RS and LE Convenience packages. These are worthwhile safety features that I would pay a premium for.

3. Add cruise to the RS and LE Convenience packages.

4. Add a sunroof to the RS or add some kind of package that gives you the sunroof plus the extra air bags and cruise.

5. Give two keys with remote entry or add a fob to the package so that two drivers in a family can have access to the remote entry. Why sell a car with one fob/key and the other keys are keys only. Two fobs please!

Overall though I am thrilled with the Yaris and I am being a bit nitpicky here.

i love this car.   it probably drives like a go cart right?    and kudos for choosing the 5 door hatch.  imo it is the best looking of the bunch.    this would be the car for us if we had a second car.

Congrats! :)

Looks like many people are showing off their new vehicles in the Show 'n Shine section...including me soon. ;)

Your first mod however should be taking off that Dealer installed license plate frame.

Good point!

I plan on putting some nice clear frames on both the Honda and the Toyota. In all those years of taking my Honda to the same dealer for servicing they have never replaced the frame which is now super faded plus cracked in areas. I even asked if they would put a new one on a year ago and they never bothered. If they care about it so little then I see no sense in advertising this dealer on my car anymore.

So, new licence plate frames for both cars and this weekend the Civic is getting a really good interior cleaning and shampoo plus a good exterior wash. I have already started to displace my wife's clutter that the Civic accumulated over the past 7 years. It is slowly becoming my car. :)
