In Hamilton/Burlington?

I want to get our 2001 Civic done as well as our "new" 2007 Yaris hatch. Obviously I am not in a rush as the good weather is just arriving.

I am also looking for a good place in my area to get some detailing done on both cars. This includes a nice wax and full interior shampoo etc.

Any recommendations for a company that can safely clean up an engine compartment without screwing up the electircal components? I would like to clean up the Civic's engine bay but not screw up the wiring etc.

Any thoughts?

Zoo, I have been wondering about taking the Fit to Krown in Guelph... but if someone comes up with a better place in your list of locations... I'll go there as well.

I've gone to the Krown in Waterloo for several years now and always been happy.  Always take my van and car in there.  They do a great job and are located on Colby drive off Northfield right off the expressway.

Can someone tell me what this is exactly (I'm assuming some sort of oil based rust protection), why I should get it, how much it costs, whether you need it on a newish car, and whether you need to protect your drive after having it done?

Try Vern Houghten in Kitchener.  He's been oil sprarying for decades and is a great alternative to Krown.

IMCO (In My Commoner Opinion), if you plan to keep your car for more than 7 years, get it done because your car will be coated with salt used on the highway and roads.

How about this: I drive a 15 year old Honda Accord with 300 000 km on it and NO rust.  It has been Krowned for it's entire life.  I finally had to pressure wash the oil off from under the hood it had got too thick. I also use Krown oil on most of my farm equipment it really seems to work.

So it looks a pretty comprehensive process from their website, do people really trust these guys removing all the trim etc. from a new or virtually new car?

It's like any franchise or dealer business, they are not created equal.  Consequently, you depend on recommendations or chance it.

The only "trim" that gets removed, or should be removed is the trunk liner.  Personally, I do this myself and leave it at home.   Consequently all the rear inner wheel wells are exposed as is the floor of the trunk (where spare is usually kept).  It is not necessary to remove the trunk lid liner.  They can get past that piece without removal.

The site says they remove the rear lights and "access all door and body panels", they must remove something?

Rear tail lights are removed in pickups only, providing they are just held in by screws which usually they are.  Rear lights in cars are accessed by removing the trunk liner.  If there are no existing vents in the doors and body panels then they drill.

The best Krown shops are places where the owner does the actually spraying.

I recently tried the Guelph location out. Seemed like they did pretty good work. They were all very friendly people.  I was back at home within 45 minutes.
