Problem with spring compressors is that since they are fairly lethal in the hands of the inexperienced there is too much liability attached to renting them.

Personally, I don't like using them because they can snap.  Just keep your face away from things.

Yeah, definitely a little scary, but they can be rented.

I rented one from Canadian Tire a couple of years back. You actually have to buy the compressor (around a hundred bucks IIRC), but they refund most (maybe even all?) of that when you return it.

Actually, I think Candian Tire "rents" quite a few tools like that. I guess the idea is that they'll make their money off of all the parts you are buying from them to install yourself.

Part Source should rent them, or you can buy a set at princess auto for like $20 or $30.

I did my springs wasn't a big deal, much easier with an impact gun though to tighten up the compressors.

Make sure you have good safety glass's as well as gloves when doing this job. Take your time as these can be known to slip on occasion and can do some serious Human damage.  :)

Since you arre in Ottawa, maybe you need to look at http://www.ottawasubaru.com. As a group they often help each other out to work on their subies, they also have some tools available to their members. Probably the best $25 you can spend on your car

It's not just paying $25 to hang out with guys, it's a CASC-OR affiliated club and they organize track days and such, If all you are interested in is Bling-bling, then yeah that group is not for you. As a group, they all work together when running at solo2 and track day events. I don't have a subie and bellonged to the club last year for the "benefits" that are included with the membership.
