It's in Montreal at the moment, in transit by Monday. Pretty good deals on Subaru's at the moment, and the salesman was exceptional.

The Jetta was a bit cheaper, but ingress/egress for our daughter with CP is easier with a bit more altitude. Mrs_T was also obsessed with the fact CR rated most VWs pretty poorly reliability wise. I wasn't concerned as long as the warranty was in effect.

The Journey was a very good deal and we liked the vehicle, but we decided that most of the time we simply didn't need that much heft and we really prefer manual transmissions.

The Mazda5 deal got torpedoed by a salesman who tried to play me for an idiot. :nono:

To the point of not trying another dealer?

BT is in New Brunswick.....another dealer is usually 100km+ away. It's annoying but it means that if the local dealer for a specific brand is lousy you move on to another manufacturer.

So BT...it sounds like Fox is your dealer. Did you look into Quirk in Bangor or are you leasing?

In another thread, BT was writing about the bank rate at 8% and Sub has 0% and $4gs off so price is close to US price

Kids - they are so impatient  ;D  BT - what colour did you choose? Okay let me rephrase that - what colour did the boss choose since it will be her car?

She chose Newport Blue Pearl and Quartz Silver Metallic. I'll get pics as soon as it is delivered.
"The boss" actually picked me up at work on Friday with one very similar to it, but automatic. She had spent the afternoon packing it with all of our camping gear. It all fits.

The decision against the Mazda5 was a bit more complicated than just the salesman. The other strike against it was the 1000lb towing capacity vs 2700lb for the Subie. We will at some point like to rent a pop-top camper from time to time.

This will be the first lease for me, we'll see how it goes.

2700 lb. towing capacity?  That's impressive for what is, for all intents and purposes, still a car.
Good stuff!

Awesome! Great timing too. My wife has taken a liking to the Outback. Can you tell me how much you paid? Is it the Touring model? Any reason not going for the Legacy Wagon?

Well looks like we have failure to launch. :'(

Apparently the car we thought we bought had been sold to a Quebec city resident a few hours before we made our agreement. The last 2008 Outback Touring with manual transmission in Newport Blue Pearl and Quartz Silver Metallic in the country.

The salesman has been diligent in trying other dealerships in the east (as far as Ontario I believe), but it was a popular colour so it's sold out.

We liked the Deep Bronze Metallic Harvest/Gold Metallic also, but the light tan/taupe interior would be hell to keep clean with the kids. There are some grey and silver ones around, but neither me nor the Mrs particularly care for shades of grey.

I'm frankly not sure what to do at this point. This process of elimination has been going on for weeks. We may have another look at the Forester XS (marginally smaller, less refined) or Legacy Wagon Touring (marginally lower, a bit sportier).
