Which tire offers exceptional wet traction and a quiet ride?
« on: April 12, 2008, 09:23:58 am »
I am in the market for tires for my 02 Camry V6.  I am looking at P205/65R15 92T or 92H size.  The three things I am looking for in a tire are:

- EXCEPTIONAL wet traction
- Quiet/Comfy Ride (absorbs bumps well)
- Long life

My Camry has 150K on it now, and would like to get a pair of tires that should last about another 100K easily.  The tires I have put on the car so far were the following:

Michelin Energy LX4 (came with the car new):  They handled decent, pretty quiet, and the wet traction was alright.

Michelin Energy MXV4+ (on the car now): They handle good on dry asphalt, but noisy, hard riding, and very slippery in the wet (still have 6/32" on the tires now).

I don't have a price limit, as I just want a tire that feels stable on rainy/slippery days.  I have a pair of Michelin X-Ice for the winter, so snow traction is not critical to me (but nice to have).  The tires that seem interesting so far are the following:

Michelin Harmony
Yokohama Avid TRZ
Bridgestone Turanza with Serenity

Can someone give me more info about the tires mentioned above, as well as other that would be good on my car?  Again, they must meet these criteria:

- EXCEPTIONAL wet traction
- Quiet/Comfy Ride (absorbs bumps well)
- Long life

Thanks!

Add Michelin Hydroedge to your list as well.

The Toyo Proxes TPT as well.

I'm looking at the Michelin Pilot Exalto's for my S60 right now. Reviews on TireRack are very positive.

Guy...I've had the Pilot Exaltos on My Millenia for going on 2 years now...SUMMER & WINTER  :shuffle:........definitely a GREAT 3 Season tyre.....and a passable Winter if your in SW Ontario or similar "mild" weather venue...(YUP THIS YEAR WAS A DOOZIE...BUT NO DITCHES......OR UNCONTROLLED SLIDES....I must be a hell of a driver ;) :P)..............exceptional in the wet...and confidence inspiring in the dry...two trips thru the Appalachians in the Spring......no squealing in the twisties down the Mountains @ 130kph PLUS.........I hate squealing tyres.......I'd say they are semi quiet..but some of those concrete divider roads in the States set up a thump thump......but i bet all tyres do on those slabs called ROADS....grrrrr..... Pricey but no regrets.....Avons 500's were my backup choice but I hear they are discontinued....!!??...........
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

I don't like the Hydroedge (too loud on a V6 Camry) and the Exalto don't last too long either.
