$35k for a V70? That's not too bad....bed you could finagle some extra dealer bucks too.

...base price there is $33, 210. In Canada they show $41,995, but they then show a $7,000 discount making it $34,995.

Where did you catch the $7,000 discount inco?

Here's a quote from the Ducati website...which offers what I think people want - transparency...

Heck, if you're reading this website, you've probably checked US prices for the 2009 Monster 696 as well, so let's call it the way it is:

The 1999 M750D retailed for $5,995 in the USA  The Canadian model was 66% more than the US model in 1999 at $9,995 CDN. The 2009 M696 is only 11% more in Canada than the US model (2009 M696 $8,495 USD vs $9,495 CDN).

From Volvo.ca - build your own under the V70 menu. ;)

Ducati Monster is $9495?  Wow.  I'm going to have to think about getting one.  That's a lot of bike for the money...
No place I'd rather be...

Yes but I'm pretty sure there are big discounts in the US as well.

Here I was all set to jump over Volvo for pricing differences after reading the review in C&D of the V70 - base price there is $33, 210. In Canada they show $41,995, but they then show a $7,000 discount making it $34,995.

And we know there has to be a slight difference in costs to meet our standards so I quite like the new pricing. Lowering the base though would be more permanent since the discount could be a temporary thing only.

Too bad we don't have an ongoing website reference chart or table of car prices that are updated monthly so we could actually monitor the spread and see what the carcos are doing - or not.

You are making a big mistake in comparing the discounted price in Canada with the MSRP in the US. You, like the Canadian media, are ignoring the fact the vehicles are also discounted substantially in the US. I can pretty well guarantee that the actual selling price for the V70 is well under $30,000 in the US.

JS - I agree with what you are saying - the out the door price in the US will be a lot less from the MSRP.

In Canada, as a way of saying how good we are, they knock off the $7,000 and expect that many people will not try and go for more. Dealer can turn around and say - 'hey we have already taken off $7,000 from list, we can't go lower or we would be losing money".

Different way of marketing. Many people will see it for what it is and others will know the difference. ::) 8)

Let's not forget....the 7K is coming from Volvo. If you pay MSRP less 7K the dealer is in effect selling for full retail.
