Here she is.  A 2009 Corolla with the "C" or "Enhanced" package.  This includes AC and cabin filter, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control, power windows, power locks with keyless and power mirrors.  As both of us will be driving the car and to enhance resale, it's an AT.  The colour is magnetic grey.  Kinda lcassy for an econo-sedan.

$20,085 including all taxes/fees etc and the rubber floor mats.  As you can see, I also opted for the Toyota roof rack.  This way if I take the Scoob to the mountains, the missus can still take the Toyota skiing.

Nice, are Canadian Corollas available with a leather seats option?

Nope.  The previous gen LE models could get leather (at one time, anyway) but then you were driving away in a $30K Corolla, so not many people opted for the package that had the leather seats.

Much quieter than I expected, especially considering the price.  The all season Conti's are a little noisy over 120km/h, but otherwise, very subdued.  It's not the Mercedes, but it is less than half the price...

Congrats! The colour actually looks pretty decent and european-ish on it. I've seen two on the road and its a leap forward design wise. Please post the mileage later. Did you consider LE?

That's a lot of car for that kind of money.

We did the consider the LE, but it's $1700 more and I just didn't see the $1700 in the additional features.  The keyless entry with start button is odd and the missus didn't like it all that much.  My goal was to write a cheque as close to $20K flat as possible.

As for value, the Corolla got me to break our no-new-car rule.  It is a TON of car for the money.  The 09 has side bags and curtain bags and ABS standard.  The interior materials are better than the 03-08 models, and overall fit and finish seems very high.  This is a very refined economy car.  The engine has a slight drone under light load that is not uncommon in most 4-banger designs, and it is barely noticable, and I only notice it as the MB's four banger is V-8 smooth...

The 4-speed AT is missing the 5th gear many makers offer now, but Toyota has matched the ratios to the engine VERY well and the trans is hot-knife-through-butter smooth.

The new electric power steering is mush better for feel compared to the previous design, but still overboosted like 99% of non-German cars.

The shifter is too easy to put into 3 instead of D, but I notice many new cars like that.  That could be better executed.

The audio system has a couple good sized knobs that do lots.  Nice.

Gauges are clear and simple.  All cars should adopt the properly marked engine coolant temp gauge with actual temperatures, but 99.99% of people wouldn't know, so...

Neat trip computer features with elapsed time, average speed, average l/100km, instant l/100km and range to empty.

NOTE: The DRL system is all automatically done now, so 09- Corola owners CAN NO LONGER DRIVE AT NIGHT with their lights off.  YAY!!!

Fine.  You're at about 2300 at 100km/h.  Not buzzy at all.  Top gear is about the same ratio as the 5MT.

Looks like the pinnacle of low capital cost, low operating cost, reliable, reasonably comfortable, mundane high-value-for-dollar transportation. Not a small accomplishment by any means. Congrats on the purchase.

Magnetic Grey is a pretty cool colour.  Grin My car got it too.

I like the gated shifter and the tap to downshift into 3rd gear would be instant to pass/accelerate on the highway.

I think the only car approaching that value with your options would be the Elantra...no?

Congratulations Thumbs up Hopefully Toyota has made the Corollas just a touch more inspiring then the last generation, and would be interested in your impressions, after you've had the car for a few weeks, on the driving experience.

I had a 2005 Corolla and it was great for reliablity. Not a single issue in 67000 km, but it was to bland an experience for me on a daily 2 hour commute, and I traded it. Still feel kind of guilty because it was like trading in a faithful pet in a way.

If Toyota has managed to make the car a little more inspiring and less like a reliable Buick then that has to be the best buy going.

Pretty much.  The Versa with similar equipment was about the same, but driving them back to back the Versa felt much less substantial.  Fit, Civic, 3 all about $2500 or so more money.  Impreza was the real pick of the litter, but at $25K, a whack more dough.  With the Forester in the family for winter mountain trips, the Corolla on premium winters for city use will be more than adequate.
